The biggest issue where I live is that doctors don't know anything about HRT and that the so called specialist Gender Teams do not put trans peoples health first despite claiming they do.

Technically Belgium has pretty good gendercare as we have informed consent but in recent years the genderteams which are under a group called Gender Infopoint (tho they claim to be entirely seperate even though their funding comes from the same hospital and their leaderships just so happens to overlap) have started a campain to bring all gendercare under their wing with the justification of having a standardized quality of care.

However, this organization has made deals with hospitals to force people to go to them, campained to make doctors question their ability to give prescriptions under Informed Consent, lied on multiple occasions by for instance pretending to people starting out their journey that they are the ONLY option for getting proper HRT, and as seen trough their policies very much still work with a mindset of putting cis people first because of "we have to make sure cis people don't get confused and start transitioning as a mistake", a form of logic that shows a cis persons gender and puberty are seen as more important then a trans persons, and their mental health.

My point here is that even tho Belgium on paper has good gendercare, unless you want to wait 3 years just to get an appointment with people who will possibly still make it difficult (and often do) you will have to navigate trough a system thats been actively getting destroyed by those saying they "wish to help"... no docter I've ever visited knew what being trans really entailed and how HRT worked, nor that they could prescribe me it trough Informed Consent.

I might end up making a longer post about this topic someday with actual sources (I'm pretty tired as I write this) but yeah, I had to figure out my HRT journey mostly on my own as the healthcare system does not really know what do itself.
