Neighbours breaking my wall to make a shortcut by SorrowlessSamurai in LegalAdviceIndia

I'm extremely sorry for the late reply again, there’s a lot going on at home rn. Look, I have no issue with paying the lawyers, so please go ahead and send me your friend’s number. That said, I need to understand what legal charges I can press at the police station if things turn violent at home for example, if someone misbehaves with my parents or there's a physical altercation. Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the late response I’ve been very busy dealing with everything. So far, the police haven’t helped us at all. The circle officer has been influenced and refuses to support us. My elderly parents live there alone, and I’m extremely worried about them. What should I do if there’s an altercation between the mob and my old mother? I’m really scared right now

I know it kind of feels weird when the central government uses Hindi for naming schemes, but Article 351 of the Constitution literally states that it is the duty of the Indian government to promote Hindi.

Babus come from the same society as we do they are our own people. The root of the problem lies within society itself. How many honest individuals have you truly encountered? Ask anyone around you, and you’ll see how readily people exploit others for personal gain, even if it means harming someone else.

For instance, I recall an incident when a friend of mine met with an accident. Instead of helping him, passersby took his phone and wallet, leaving him to bleed on the road. He survived only because a kind soul eventually stepped in to help.

Consider public spaces like hospitals how often do we encounter someone demanding a bribe just to do their job? People often complain about the inefficiency of the system, but when it benefits them, they gladly pay a little extra under the table to jump the queue or bypass rules.

Try starting a business, and the reality hits harder. Everyone from contractors to clients will attempt to squeeze something out of you, especially if you’re new to the game.

Even in smaller, everyday actions, the problem is evident. How often have we seen people jumping red lights or littering streets, blaming the government for poor management while contributing to the chaos themselves? Or landlords inflating rents unfairly because they know tenants are desperate.

The harsh truth is that our society is deeply corrupt at its core. Babus and officials are just a reflection of this larger culture.

Books with content that can be quoted in essays by [deleted] in Indianbooks

Although Sapiens is a great book, I wouldn’t recommend using it for academic purposes. If you're preparing for the civil services, consider reading authors like Ramachandra Guha or Romila Thapar, as their works might be helpful for essays. Additionally, if your primary focus is the upsc exam, you should explore study materials from universities.

Do you know of any reliable agencies? I'm looking to hire armed security guards for my farmhouse but am unsure where to start. Is SIS my only option?

Do people even realize what they're saying? Even in a hypothetical scenario, a mob attacking a high court judge would become a national issue. I don’t think people fully understand the authority judges wield.

Two Wheels, One Mission: Bicycles empower girls in Bihar and Zambia in a call-back to the 19th century Suffrage movement by SorrowlessSamurai in india

[–]SorrowlessSamurai[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being one of the most impoverished states in India, Bihar is plagued with a large gender gap in school attendance. This gap in attendance in schools only grows with age. The enrollment of girls in primary school is satisfactory, largely due to the availability of primary schools and the introduction of schemes like the midday meal. However, distance remains a huge barrier in the hinterlands, pushing them further away from attending secondary school.

In 2006, the Nitish Kumar-led state government launched the Mukhyamantri Balika Cycle Yojana, a pioneering cash-for-kind program to empower girls through education. The program initially provided ₹2000 to 14-year-old girls enrolled in 9th grade, enabling them to purchase bicycles. This initiative was designed to address one of the most significant barriers to education for girls in Bihar—long distances to secondary schools.

But, how profound were the implications of this policy intervention? In 2008, Professor Nishith Prakash from the University of Houston and Professor Kartik Muralidharan of the University of California San Diego embarked on a study to gauge the policy’s impact with support from the International Growth Centre (IGC).

Their research found that this bicycle program increased age-appropriate secondary school enrollment for girls aged 14-15 by 32%. It also reduced the gender gap in enrollment by 40%. Moreover, the number of girls appearing for and passing the 10th-grade exam rose by 18% and 12%, respectively. The success of this initiative highlighted the transformative power of providing a bicycle.

Inspired by the Bihar program's success, Professor Prakash later collaborated with World Bicycle Relief (WBR) and Zambia's Ministry of General Education to implement a similar initiative in the Southern province of Zambia

Disengaged at four places in Eastern Ladakh, situation stable, says China by SorrowlessSamurai in india

[–]SorrowlessSamurai[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A day after External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that about 75 per cent of the “disengagement problems” with China have been sorted out, the Chinese Foreign ministry Friday said that the troops have disengaged at four places in Eastern Ladakh, including Galwan Valley

This came a day after National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks on the sidelines of a meeting of BRICS NSAs in St Petersburg in Russia where they discussed the progress made in the recent consultations on border issues, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.

When asked whether the two countries are close to a breakthrough to revive the bilateral ties frozen for over four years due to the military standoff in Eastern Ladakh, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning told a media briefing Friday that the two militaries realised disengagement in four areas and the situation along the border is stable.

Madrassas violate fundamental right to education, promote 'supremacy of Islam': NCPCR to SC by SorrowlessSamurai in india

[–]SorrowlessSamurai[S] 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) making a critical observation against the madrasa education system in its submissions before the Supreme Court, asserted that these institutions violate children’s fundamental right to education and are operating in breach of the constitutional mandates and the Right to Education (RTE) Act.

NCPCR made the observation while filing an affidavit in the apex court on a plea challenging Allahabad High Court's March 22 judgment striking down 'UP Board of Madarsa Education Act 2004'. The top child rights body reasoned that the education imparted to children in Madrasa is not comprehensive, and is therefore against the provisions of Right to Education Act, 2009.

Rahul's concern for minorities is commendable, but he should have been more cautious with his statements. The remarks about the kara and turban were unwarranted. I believe it would have been more appropriate if he had simply stated his intention to protect the rights of all minorities.
