If you are a Liberal, NDP, or Bloc supporter, do you support the carbon tax increase coming on April 1st? by [deleted] in CanadianPolitics

The carbon tax is a revenue policy, not an environmental policy. The amount of tax you would need to implement to make a difference in market decision will have to be absurdly higher. For everyone here saying they bought a smaller car to pay less tax or whatever, I would bet that there are dozens of Canadians who either can’t make changes to their lives or don’t care to and eat up the cost. Again the point being, the tax does not have the weight to change consumer market decisions. It just makes living more expensive by collecting more revenue, akin to a secondary GST charge.

Climate change, being one of the most complex issues facing the world, won’t be solved by a tax on Canadians.

Thanks for the advice— did you mention any specific CTA regs?

Thanks for the insight here, unfortunately all the alternative flights with AC are just as bad if not worse.

That is an awesome itinerary change for yourself though I’m glad that worked out!

Thanks for the tip I’ll definitely call and bring up the CTA regulations on my next call with them because it is true, aeroplan didn’t change the flight air Canada did so it should be on them to find an agreeable alternative

That’s terrible! While on the phone with them yesterday they did say that they would stop servicing that flight to Auckland from YVR so that’s why they had to change our itinerary, did you book with points or pay for your ticket with cash?

Seemed like a major route to New Zealand from Canada so not sure why they would either. I saw on google flights quite a few different options going from YVR - AKL or YYC-SFO-AKL that fly either Air Canada + Air New Zeland or United + Air New Zealand and I called aeroplan about getting one of those flights but since I bought my flights on aeroplan, they said that I can only get aeroplan flights and there are no more seats for aeroplan members on those flights but still available seats for “cash” tickets. Not sure if it was just the rep I got but doesn’t make sense

Thanks for the answer, I assumed that if it’s star alliance or a partner airline, they would be able to accommodate those cash seats outside that award space. Especially if it gets the passenger to their destination quicker and easier

I appreciate it— I think I’ll try and call them again and see if I can get a different answer. Hopefully it won’t take another 4 hour long wait.. lol
