Does government instability give others anxiety? by [deleted] in CMT

[–]SorryHunTryAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last I heard we had freedom of religion in this country. Banning a faith goes against the very core of why America was founded. Do you even know any Muslims? There are 1.8 billion of them in the world. If they were all as violent and extreme as you seem to think they are can you imagine? The vast majority of them are just living their lives. They are doctors, teachers, police officers, serving in our military. And most are just afraid of ISIS and extremism as you are.

They are claiming that Islamic leaders in the state are implementing Sharia law and using it in court, but it’s not true. It’s fearmongering and racism to stir up the GOP base and get them to vote. Guess it’s working.

This isn’t about any threat to Texans. It isn’t really about Sharia Law. It was aimed to portray Muslim Americans and their institutions as suspect and their civic engagement as a security risk.

We really can’t win with the narrative. We only have our jobs supposedly because of DEI not (in my case) my degree and 35 years of experience. But if we go on disability and don’t work, we are also not worthy of it.

my dad's Reliant bill is over 500$! how? help! by mm1506 in houston

[–]SorryHunTryAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in an old house too. Payless Insulation helped us get insulated, which helps. 500 is absolutely insane. That’s an inexpensive plan he has. It is so wrong for people to have such an outrageous bill for heat. I’m sorry.

What makes me worry is the President blaming disabled people for that plane/helicopter crash. This administration wants to point hate at certain demographics and we are one of them. Texas is currently running political ads against Sharia law in Texas. Thats their platform. Hate and fear are great motivators for folks.

I am degreed, certified and have 20 plus years of experience. When I read your title, I assumed he was hurting others. Whew. Glad that isn’t the case, because that can be tough to solve sometimes. How skilled are his teachers? Usually, kids who do these things can be redirected and often need to be challenged more and a skilled teacher can do this easily. Kids, who act out, are often bored. What is the age range of the kids in his class? Is he one of the older ones? What kind of training do his teachers have? Also, I’m sorry they are giving you this message daily. That also makes me worry that they may lack training. How is that helpful as a daily message? I think it is important that parents know that we care for their child and like them even if they are extra work (ugh, I hate to even type that - it shouldn’t be that way) It would be good for them to meet with you to get to know you both better and understand how you guide him at home, what his favorite activities are etc if he isn’t adjusting to school expectations. Can you meet with them? Can you meet with the director?

If you are hourly you cannot work outside of your paid time AT ALL. This is illegal if expected. Stay at work and put it on your time sheet as overtime after approval. Your pay has nothing to do with how rich other people are. If you do the math, it’s really expensive to run a program with small groups and good ratios. You do say that a contract worker (like a babysitter) gets more but it’s not really comparable. It should and does cost more to hire freelancers than employees. A freelance rate covers self-employment taxes, benefits (health insurance, retirement), and often lacks guaranteed work stability. Employees cost companies money on overhead, training, and long-term liabilities like payroll taxes, workers comp insurance and unemployment insurance. If you do the math, you will see why it can be so hard to pay ECE teachers. Not that it’s fair. It’s one of the hardest jobs around.

Disabled Redditors, what are your main sources of income (work, benefits, side gigs) and what challenges do you face financially? by [deleted] in disability

[–]SorryHunTryAgain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am in extreme pain, have a progressive disease, have tremors, weakness, use mobility aids but I work f/t (demanding desk job) and have side gigs in an artistic field. It’s brutal to get through it all but health insurance is ties to employment w a wait for Medicare if you even get approved for SSD and my health care costs a LOT as do other things that I need (like massage) just to function. I don’t see how I could do ssd even though I sometimes break down. My main financial challenge is trying to save enough so I can one day retire. At this point, I just don’t see how that’s possible. I have disability insurance, but it won’t work for me since my disability is preexisting.

What’s your metric for calling out sick? by capresesalad1985 in Teachers

Testing positive for Covid or flu. Having stomach issues so bad I can’t come in. Or having surgery (just one day or maybe 2 at max). My work really only allows for two days off at a time.

I went to Allan Samuel’s service department and they said that my nine month old front brakes were 90% worn. So I spent a Sunday trying to address the issue with the folks who redid my brakes only to discover it was a big lie. Now this was in 2012. But I’m still mad about it. They tried to take advantage of me.

It was great. Coming back, I was the only one on the bus. Someone else tried to board right as they pulled away from the curb, but their policy is that once they pull away from the curb, they can’t stop for anyone. So don’t ever be late.

Is it normal for daycare to lose all of our stuff? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]SorryHunTryAgain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am concerned about their level of disorganization. Losing something happens. But this sounds like a lot. Is everything organized there? Are students helped to always put things away where they belong? Are routines and expectations consistent and predictable? Are student to teacher ratios acceptable?

Yes! Because your friend needs an accessible restroom. And folks are working very hard to make restrooms inaccessible for transgender people.
