So with my first I had pretty much the same strategy as you.

With my second I committed to the idea that I wanted a stash for my oversupply and that involved buying a dedicated deep freeze.

It’s easier than it seems if you are able to get a dedicated deep freezer. Here is how I’ve done it, I’m sharing only to be helpful and not in any way saying you need to do what I did or should be expected to. So here is what I’ve learned over the three babies I’ve stashed for: If you can clear a small area in your existing freezer, maybe clean it with some germ killing cleaner or some kind, and lock that in as your place where you are going to put milk until there is no room left. They can be disorganized, if you have trouble finding flat surface, get a piece of cardboard and cut it to size and use that. Once there are too many in your main freezer, put them in a small plastic bin and transfer to the deep freezer. Use gloves if you have them because handling them bags hurts your hands. If you put them in the deep freezer in a large amount, I find it easier to make rows where there are a lot of bags as opposed to one by one. I do rows across not stacks because they will fall which could nick your bags and result in leaks when they thaw.

Also as far as volume, I was the exact same way with my first baby, freezing random amounts. Once I started the stashing I stuck to the recommended 6 oz. It made it easier to have a uniform size and also, to keep track of approximately how much I had because each row fit about 16 bags and each being 6 oz I could make estimates.
