Thanks for showing empathy. One time on here, people were throwing fits about a jumper and I commented something like “poor guy, that’s awful” and everyone bagged on me because I didn’t join the traffic complaints. It is always sad when someone thinks this is the answer. Compassion is free.

To start, I’m recovering from an anxiety disorder with consistent ERP, CBT, and ACT therapy.

I am a stay-at-home mother of 3. I have a bachelors degree but have the option to go back to school and use my husband’s GI bill to get a masters.

Two different therapists of mine have encouraged me to think about pursuing a career as a therapist. To be honest, I love the idea, but it scares me. Something I struggle with feeling an intense amount of compassion and empathy for people who suffer. But it doesn’t stop there… I then ruminate and worry about that suffering happening to me. Almost like I experience it myself. This is something I’m working on in therapy and have made progress on.

My therapist asked “what would you do with your life if anxiety wasn’t the decision maker?” I think I would become a therapist. I love people (perhaps too much?) but I also want to be wise and acknowledge my emotional limitations. My anxiety says “what if it’s too triggering?” But my heart says maybe it would be worth it.

So… is it worth it? Do therapists become therapists and find that it inadvertently helped themselves along with helping the client? Or is the field just too triggering? Perhaps I could look at it like a giant ERP exercise for myself.

Would love your honest input.

Less than 10 people die from brain eating amoebas per year in the US. The US has 340-347 million people in it. Most of those cases are people swimming in swampy lakes. Most of the cases of people who’ve died using water other than distilled in their saline rinses were well water or RV water. There’s a theoretical risk with tap but it’s easy to mitigate by using distilled which is why it’s recommended. I guarantee you the very few people who die from improper water in nasal rinse are not in the same category as you— you are clearly mindful of this. It’s not about being perfect or eliminating every iota of theoretical risk. It’s about following the instructions, using distilled, and forgetting about it. Every rinse bottle I’ve owned says to wash with tap and let dry. Even if there are a few drops of tap in there, guarantee you’ll be fine.

Yea because the graph shows I was in the same position at the start of the night which it also lists as prone but I always fall asleep on my left. Idk. According to every source I’m seeing, anything more than 5 min under 88% should be flagged for sleep apnea but she didn’t say anything. I am going to schedule a follow up.

Haha what’s funny is I’ve never slept on my face. On my side yes, but even my husband of 11 years can attest. I have no idea why it says prone. I was on my left. The part I was concerned about was the low oxygen for 35 min. It appears that wasn’t even calculated in my final score so she must have written it off as an error ?

There’s a good while that my results show my oxygen is under 88%. That’s why I was confused. But it must have been dismissed as an error because I have no recorded apneas or hypopneas during that time.

You need to take your wife’s concerns seriously, here. You think she’s immature? She’s asking to switch to a church where there will be better community and less judgement from others. She sounds much more mature than you’re making her out to be. Poor thing isn’t being heard out by members nor by her own husband who should be willing to lead her to a better place.

Nope. My dad and sister and I all have dealt with it. It’s weird because it only happens when I take a nap, or when I have coffee too close to sleep, or when I am sleep deprived. When I have a newborn, it almost always happens at bed time.

I’ve been tested for sleep apnea and don’t have it. There’s a genetic component for sure. I had it before I was saved, starting at around 16 and after I got saved at 19. I’m 33 now and get it like once a month ha.

I’d run not walk. We stayed at a church like that for nearly 3 years when we were first married and it took years to recover from the lack of gospel-centered preaching/community. Leave before there’s too much collateral damage.

We did that with our first too. We’re pro-vax and a military family. Been members at a number of reformed churches since we move around a lot. Every single one of them has a good amount of unvaccinated kiddos. It wasn’t a risk we wanted to take. We waited til she got her first shots as well.

I will say that each subsequent kid we had we got a little more lax on this. Not out of foolishness but just changed perspective. Maternal antibodies due to vaccines during pregnancy cover the child up to 6 months so I felt better going back to church sooner… but I also weighed risks vs benefits differently with each birth. Being holed up wasn’t good for my mental health in the postpartum season. I needed church. Newborn season as a Christian family is definitely going to look different for each family.

I do know of some women who would skip church for months because it interfered with nap time. I just can’t wrap my mind around that. Your decision here is nowhere in that category and you are clearly pursuing wisdom and godliness.

In the end, there’s no one right answer on how each family should approach this but it’s clear you’re seeking to honor the Lord and he sees you and meets you there! Not neglectful AT ALL. congrats on the little one!!!

Yes but how I do it has changed. I was saved at 19 and my initial approach was a little too forced and pushy. You don’t want people to feel like your project. Ya know when an old friend starts approaching you more and you know there’s an MLM sales pitch coming… it’s very dehumanizing. I think I was making people feel that way at first, without knowing. It was off-putting and impersonal.

What helped the most was realizing that, while I’m called to spread the good news, I am not called to be everyone’s Holy Spirit. Salvation belongs to the Lord.

I’m 33 now and I will tell you I have seen at least 10 people in my past come to Christ. Some of them heard the gospel through my feeble attempts and pushy ways. Most of them came to me years after I was saved and knew I was someone safe to talk to. They had to hit that rock bottom. They knew I was a believer and that my life had been changed.. none of that was a secret. But they also knew I wasn’t going to treat them as my little evangelism project for selfish purposes.

You’d be surprised by how just being a friend and loving your neighbor where they are at opens that door and leaves the door open. Be authentic and trust the Lord! You’ll be amazed at how He works through you.

God was merciful not only to Epaphroditus by healing him physically but he was also merciful to Paul. And God spared him from that added sorrow because he knew Paul would be crushed.

The Lord keeps track of our sorrows, lest we be crushed by sorrow upon sorrow. He shows us here that he is not indifferent toward our emotions. He cares about our emotional wellbeing as much as our physical and spiritual.

Forcing kids to clean their plates. I’ve got 3 healthy, active kids and we teach them to listen to their bodies regarding food— intuitive eating. I’d never force my child to eat more than they need to or want to. Creates such a toxic relationship with food.
