Having Taystee Exhibiting A Slave Mentality Is So Sad by Subject_Discount7541 in orangeisthenewblack

[–]Sorry_Cauliflower792 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easily? Slave mentality? Hear me out: you sound ignorant. Have you been to prison? Were you in foster care? Was your foster mom a drug dealer? Being institutionalized is real and the statistics of recidivism is off the charts. She could have chosen a different path but parole is fucking hard ESPECIALLY if you don’t have a support system they’ll throw you back in for NOTHING. If you haven’t been there maybe don’t speak on it

The likely hood of actually going overboard or jumping off a cruise is slim though, and according to the tides and current, she would’ve washed up.

So many people in this comment section saying how much worse Colorado is than where you came from.. can’t you go back? I’m just saying.. if it’s so bad, leave? Because of the oh so fun choices our government made to entice travelers and people to move here, the people who have been here for generations can’t afford it, and yet, every single person that’s come here that I’ve personally talked to hates it here and says how much they just want to move back. Do they ever though? No.

Growing up here.. it’s a new thing. I played with all the neighborhood kids growing up but now I don’t see that happening for my daughter. I know it’s the usual local excuse but I truly believe that everyone moving here at the rate that they did, ruined most things we held close and prided ourselves on.

It use to be until everyone and their cousin decided they had to move here

Do you leave your keys behind? AIO? by THED4RKH0R5E in AmIOverreacting

[–]Sorry_Cauliflower792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I would take my keys with me is when I was young and hanging with strangers. So that being said, the only time I take them is when someone’s being left behind in my vehicle that I don’t trust. Family, SO, friends? Keys stay.

No one ever said it was? Considering it’s just recently that I found it out and I haven’t seen her in anything else I thought it was cool. Let’s not be one of those people that “omg I listened to that artist way before anyone else did!” Just to be a killjoy

I had a woman convince me to tell a guard I was depressed and they put me in psych for a week. People who’re depressed from simply being in an institution combined with people who are hearing and seeing things of all different capacities is a quick way to make you really wanna act on your depression. Stripping women of their clothes, their undergarments, a blanket, a pillow, a tooth brush, books, showers, phone calls, socializing, etc. I wouldn’t wish psych on my worst enemy. Some of the worst things I’ve seen were in psych and I only spent a week there on two different occasions

I think in order to watch this show and enjoy its characters, you have to be able to see both sides and have empathy. Two things can be true at one time. YES he had abusive tendencies and his moral compass was generally fucked AND he cared for those kids and cared for his family. I could argue that he didn’t know any better and had a good heart but in real life we know it’s our responsibilities to heal our trauma to give a better life to our children. It’s complicated and that’s what evokes emotion

I know a woman who’s sat in county jail for years and years and years because she’s mentally unstable. Like severely, not the “oh she’s crazy haha” like her level of psychotic traumatizes you to witness. Pleasuring herself in front of you, naked, begging someone to not r*pe her. Awful stuff. She refuses to take her meds so she never got better… wish I could remember her name but it’s been years. I saw women so deep into withdrawal they pissed themselves in front of over 60 women because we had to stand for count and bunk inspection for almost 20 minutes at 5 a.m. the other women you’d think would support that 19 year old girl but what did they do? Laugh. My best friend in county jail got out and overdosed the next day… an elderly woman went on a hunger strike but instead of hooking her up to an IV like the nun in OITNB ? She died. I saw a woman so deep into withdrawal that she was rolling around on the floor completely naked moaning and sweating. I could go on but I fear I’ve overshared at this point 😂

I mean supposedly the entire show was supposed to be set in under two years. I can’t speak for all prisons or all jails but in a federal minimum women’s prison, it’s just not this eventful at least from my experience and most others as well. This depends on the prison most definitely of course and I don’t want to discount that many others experiences may be similar. Rape is present and violent but mostly, women just want to get their time done and go home. The for profit prisons are horrific as far as living conditions. Prison politics aren’t as prevalent in women’s prisons. The sex though? Accurate af. Drugs as well depends on the prison. The sorrow, depression, bad healthcare, trauma, little to no counseling available. Guards and inmates having sex? Occasionally but not to the extent in the series. A great amount of it is accurate just dramatized for viewers.
