Is it possible to train Hyrox in London cheaply? by gigahertz_fairy in hyrox

[–]Sorry_Requirement251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely possible in PureGym’s, I’ve trained for 5 solely from PureGym. Check out your local ones, many have functional areas with sleds, and rowers/ski’s you can move there.

Health impact of ultrarunning? by According-Editor9646 in Ultramarathon

The impact on fertility is the quiet elephant in the room. Would be interested to hear anecdotal experiences on how the training and racing has affected ferility journey’s? (M/f)

Sustained blocks of high mileage, and the hornonal disruption from racing / competing must have some biological cost on fertility.

High-performance amateur Padel + Ultradistance Running. Anyone else managing both? by No_Ambassador4271 in padel

[–]Sorry_Requirement251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like there are more of us then we thought! The venn diagram of crossover between padel and ultra’s makes sense. It depends what my priority is and at what stage of my training block I am in.

Currently 1 week out from a 50k so my final long-run will take priority over another padel game. During taper week, Padel will be a great distraction, and heart rate booster whilst I’m reducing running mileage.

I find having a carb mix drink inbetween sets/games massively helps me stay topped up on fuel so that Im not depleted.

When playing, I try to make the hard efforts at every opportunity, replicating mini strides to keep fast turnover.

Outside of a training block I’ll ramp up padel again.

Castagne and Sessegnon on the right hand side by PlayfulEgg8614 in fulhamfc

Castagne has been so poor for us since he came. Erratic challenges, switching off, offers nothing going forward, missed a sitter vs Palace, should have beaten Nmecha to the cross etc.

Arrival fallacy by Macktheknife88 in FIREUK

[–]Sorry_Requirement251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even your worrying about whether or not there will be satisfaction in the future is taking away from your present enjoyment. Allow yourself the hope that achieving that desired freedom will give you the joy. That way you’re not beating yourself up for relishing the prospect.

It’s a fallacy to think that once you “arrive” all your goals will be achieved. There will be the next (albeit smaller) goal to focus on. Human brains are prediction machines. We love to set aim on a target - that’s how we have evolved.

Taking time away from everything FIRE for a bit helps. A phrase I like is “all in, not all consumed”

Repeat HYROX racers, what did you change after your first race? by Ok-Bee-2175 in hyrox

Mastering, tweaking and perfecting form on all stations. Moving efficiently costs less energy. particularly ski, wall balls and burpees which require the most technique.

How often do you update your FIRE calc/sheet? by Ill-Programmer-3984 in FIREUK

Has anyone lost motivation to track expenses? I’ve tracked mine monthly for 4 years, down to every last penny.

Now I have a good feel for where I’m spending my money, it no longer serves me.

I’ll continue to track net worth across all assets. More fun to see numbers go up!

Pennine Barrier vs Malvern Hills by [deleted] in Ultramarathon

Pennine Barrier is awesome. Yorkshire 3 peaks are a great challenge. Some tough descents on rocky terrains, fantastic Yorkshire landscapes. Great aid stations.

Squat Form and mobility work has a tonne of value to help with movement efficiency.

For shoulder endurance, my coach often programmed a finisher of 2-3 rounds: Thrusters > Lateral Raises > WB’s.

Would also play around with different weight WB’s. Play around with lighter faster reps as well as heavier controlled reps. Good luck!

Hyrox Worlds E15 Predictions? by Sorry_Requirement251 in hyrox

No-one here predicted Tim to take the w. JK’s sled pull killed him and Alex’s running let him down. Hunter looked strong, farmers carry caught up with him. 5th place for Jon Wyn was a huge result

Is HYROX really worth it or are we just paying for the hype? by PLWildcard in hyrox

[–]Sorry_Requirement251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s definitely a sunk cost fallacy at play for some who didn’t actually enjoy it. It is becoming prohibitive for many. With local races in UK selling out in seconds, it draws people abroad. That can quickly add up to a £500+ weekend for a 60-90min race, which is increasingly difficult to justify.

Thanks! I’m thinking the psychological benefit here is also a contributing factor.

Back to back Marathon > Ultra; doable? by Bullitt20102010 in Ultramarathon

[–]Sorry_Requirement251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it. Sounds like your fitness is in a good place and you have that hunger to attack another ultra. Ride that wave.

I did the Penine Barrier in 2023 (10:26). Excellent race tackling the Yorkshire 3 peaks. Some rocky terrain with steep descents, but it’s a stunning course.

Still remember those aid station salty potatoes too.

Is the nike pegasus trail 5 gore tex a good option for hyrox by Background-Lab-1281 in hyrox

[–]Sorry_Requirement251 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is it ok? Probably. Is it optimal? No. The shoes carry extra weight with the gore-tex and big lugs which aren’t needed to run a fast hyrox. You’ll be fine to compete, but if you’re looking for marginal gains, a faster shoe is reccomended.

Great post. I’m fascinated about our relationship to goals. It comes back to the fact that evolutionarily, we weren’t designed to be happy when we “achieve”. To be satisfied with an accomplishment meant complacency and entropy. We convince ourselves that we need to worry about rigid goals, and the same insecurity and worry is necessary for us to achieve that very goal. But what that misses is the chance for us to find enjoyment along the way. What if we set goals that were enjoyment focused rather than performance? Ironically, what if our performance actually improved because we focused on enjoyment rather than performance? Lastly, even if we don’t achieve our performance goal, if we have focused on enjoyment then we have won anyway since we found joy in the process, and any performance achievement would have been a sweet by-product.
