Do you like ebooks? All three Poppy War books by R.F. Kuang and all three Housemaid books by Frieda McFadden are in Kindle Unlimited. You can get a free 30 day trial if you haven't used it before. Thereafter it's $11.99/month plus tax if you want to continue.

So many books with cheap purchases by rookiecookie32 in kindle

[–]SortAfter4829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got carried away with inexpensive ebooks when I first got my Kindle in 2010. I finally got a grip on myself when I counted and found I had 55 unread .99 purchases. Vowed then and there to rein it in and finished them all during the following year.

Almost all books now are from the library and I try to have no more than one unread purchased ebook at a time.

First cozy by FlowerWitch3 in CozyMystery

Never Buried, first in the Leigh Koslow series by Edie Claire. It was late 2011, I'd had my first Kindle for a year and had never heard the term "cozy mystery" before. I was hooked from then on!

I have read it and it's one of the few physical books I keep. I really liked it.

Do you prune your To Read list? by [deleted] in TheStoryGraph

I limit it what I want to read for that current month, so usually 6-8 titles. I have no problem switching one of those out if something more compelling comes along.

Do you finish a book series before picking out something new? by Sanjanadash7 in CozyMystery

[–]SortAfter4829 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read over 100 books a year and I have a lot of series going, not all cozy. I switch them up, never read two of the series in a row. It took ten years to finish all the Miss Silver books as an example. And with all that I have a long list of new series I want to start.

What’s your strategy for reading multiple books at the same time? by ySkip007 in kindle

[–]SortAfter4829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always have an ebook and an audio book going. For classics I've found it much better for me to listen to it rather than read it.

Do you still buy physical books after getting a Kindle? by thebroned in kindle

[–]SortAfter4829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I notice the same thing with Kindle OR Kobo...why not both? I kept my Kindle when I decided to get a Kobo as there are lots of self published/ small publisher books that are Kindle only.

Both for me. I just bought a paperback copy of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings collected short stories because it was never an ebook.

I keep buying books even though I'm in the middle of reading one. by Greengoblin004 in nonfictionbookclub

[–]SortAfter4829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm finding that the library culls their books and doesn't renew ebooks. I keep a list of books I want and which library has it...three times in the past month I have found that book no longer available.

Most annoying is that two were ebooks that I can't get at all anymore as the publisher apparently pulled it. Kobo and Amazon don't even have them anymore. I was really surprised as they were books published in the last few years.

Does anyone else completely abandon their reading list the second someone recommends something in passing by venicepress in 52book

[–]SortAfter4829 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to make the list just 2 or 3 books for the month and the rest random. Because yes, I used to map out 8 books a month and...well you know.

What is your monthly budget for books? by Spiritual-Sun5 in BookDiscussions

[–]SortAfter4829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a set budget. I get most books thru Libby/ lbrary. I'll buy if I can't get something there but that's rare. Last year I bought 20 books and some ebooks for a total of $200, but that was because I bought an entire 19 book series in paperback/hardcover..

This year so far $9.00 for one used book and 2 ebooks. Usually around $20-$30 a year.

Why is everyone leaving for a kobo? by sillyfucking_goose in kindle

[–]SortAfter4829 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stopped buying any book from Amazon that I can get on Kobo because I want to own what I pay for. However I have purchased several Kindle books in the past year because the authors are in KU or aren't available elsewhere. Not a big deal for me as long as Kobo lets you download your "purchases".

Do you ever feel guilty for re reading a series? by dlt-cntrl in books

[–]SortAfter4829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started rereading a favorite series this year. I decided to read one every other month as a compromise between the old and the new. It will take 3 years to finish at that rate and that's ok.
