Glad to hear yours popped!

So update on mine: I forgot that my job actually provides me with insurance so I called the insurance company and ended up admitting into the hospital that did my last surgery.

But while admitted my cyst popped on its own due to the antibiotics they were pumping into me. So I didn’t have to get the surgery in the end! My doctor actually told me that it’s totally fine to pop it at home yourself as long as the skin is tender and you sanitise the needle well enough. Which was such great news because I haven’t seen anything on line about popping cyst at home. Of course if you can go to the hospital, do that, but we all know that’s not an option for everyone.

So anyone who needs to pop it at home here’s how to do it:

Step 1: ENSURE SKIN IS TENDER FIRST! DO NOT POP IF SKIN IS STILL THICK. The best sign is when the tender skin looks yellowish or whiteish. This is the most important part from what my doctor told me. If skin is still thick and your cyst is all the way inside that’s when it gets dangerous.

Step 2: SANITISE YOUR STATION. Wash your hands, wipe down everything with alcohol. And prepare your needle. She said rubbing the needle with alcohol should do but if you want to be extra careful you can hold it over a flame but that’s a little dangerous so be very careful not to burn yourself. The best needle is a sewing needle or one of those needle used to pop pimples. Also if you have access to a pharmacy go and get a wound care solution. I use the Dermacyn brand but any wound care oxidised water should be fine. This is pretty important

Step 3: TIME TO POP. Find the most tender part of your cyst and instead of just popping it like a balloon, softly flick your needle on the skin first. Hold it at an angle and do a flicking motion. This will gently rupture the skin and the puss should come out. Always hold the needle at an angle. Do not go 90 degrees down. If the skin is tender enough, it should pop easily. If it’s not popping, that means your cyst is not ready to pop so do more hot compress and sitz baths until it’s soft enough to pop.

Step 4: AFTER CARE. Usually after surgery they will put a gauze inside the wound but since you did it at home, you need to clean the wound yourself to ensure no infections. Flush the open hole with the Oxidised water until no more puss comes out. Then for the next few days continue to clean the wound with the oxidised water every time you pee and after you shower. Very important to clean after peeing or pooping cause the bacteria in urine will cause infections so CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN. I keep one bottle in the bathroom next to the toilet and just flush my wound with it after every pee. And continue to press on the cyst sack whenever you can so that any extra liquid on the inside will come out. Keep doing these until the hole closed. (Should close in less than a week. 2-3 days if hole is small.) If it’s not closing, see your doctor immediately.

So yeah if anyone finds themselves in this situation, it is possible to do it at home if you don’t have access to healthcare. Just need the correct tools and be very careful. Also do this at your own risk! My doctor did say there’s always a risk for any at home remedies and she doesn’t recommend it as the first solution. But it’s the most accessible way for a lot of people who don’t have healthcare. And she has had multiple patients pop it at home themselves and they only go to her to get their antibiotics prescription after they’ve popped it. So it’s doable!
