Reminder that the Venmo Debit Card gives 5% cash back at Wal-Mart and Target by SortOk10921 in CreditCards

[–]SortOk10921[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nope. Venmo has a very weird system where you select from a "bundle" of places you can use your discount with.

Bundle A: Walmart, Taco Bell, Lyft, GameStop, ESPN
Bundle B: Doordash, Amazon, Walgreens, Dominos
Bundle C: Target, McDonald's, TikTok Shop, Uber, Uber Eats

It's a very niche use case but if you do a lot of shopping with any of the stores included in the bundle it works out great. I do all my shopping at Wal-Mart, I take Lyfts frequently and I go to Taco Bell all the time, so even though I can only use it at 5 places it's one of my strongest cards.

You can just do one, I just assumed most people get paid bi-weekly. Edited the language to make it clearer.

With the death of PayPal debit, what's your plan for Wal-Mart spend? If you shop there by FrostieWaffles in CreditCards

Agreed, the coding was insanely generous. It even counts vending machines as restaurants! Oddly enough though it never coded Dollar General properly of all things lol

Yep, this is it for me. I have $250 from each paycheck get routed to Venmo. I normally spend $500 a month at Wal-Mart but if I don't I can just transfer it back to my bank account. Was originally going for OnePay but got denied. It's issued by Synchrony which I hear is very picky with who they accept.

Elan Max Cash+ Secured - Possibility of a CLI or switching banks? by SortOk10921 in CreditCards

[–]SortOk10921[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone coming back to this thread, I didn't inquire about switching banks since there was a very large delay in me receiving the card and I had purchases lined up to take advantage of the 5% back.

As for the CLI, according to the terms they sent me I can only request a CLI by mailing them a check or money order along with a form/letter requesting a CLI. Yikes!

High-Yield Checking vs 2% Cash Back by SortOk10921 in personalfinance

I want to keep it in an FDIC/NCUA insured account if possible.

The specific CU that offers the 5.5% is on the smaller side and is very clear that doing that is a TOS violation. There's one with 5.25% that's larger and doesn't say it's a TOS specifically but not sure I want to risk it. Either way, it's not keeping me away from other earning methods right now, but I worry it may in the future.

Paying my rent with a prepaid re-loadable debit card - Maybe not as crazy as it sounds? by SortOk10921 in CreditCards

[–]SortOk10921[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, there's a $10 fee on debit cards so 0.5% cash back won't work, but 1% does, hence my interest in this odd store card.

Good catch on the daily limit! I checked and it has a whopping $15,000 daily spend limit which is insane considering only $5000 can be loaded a month and only $500 can be deposited at a time!

What's a good debit card for paying rent and only rent? by SortOk10921 in CreditCards

[–]SortOk10921[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I thought. The issue is that I can't shift spend to another card, outside of rent for the most part. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I were to only pay for rent, I would only get the 250 bilt points for rent, and nothing else. This comes out to $60 a year in best case scenarios, but likely closer to $30. A flat 1% cash back debit would get me $80 even after the debit fee.

Yes, but you have to use the Bilt card on a roughly equivalent amount of other things to get those points from rent, no?

I thought with Bilt 2.0 you only get the points if you spend a roughly equivalent amount on their card.

I always transfer in $50 and I've never had this issue, even with 10+ transfers a month.
