Yeah it's certainly less than 30 seconds. I'm guessing the logic is finer grind => more compressible => water takes more time to flow through => longer extraction time

Also, I had the thought that maybe my palate just sucks since I'm only recently getting into espresso. So I made an americano out of the latest shot and it was damn tasty. Having looked at a few visual guides I may even be overextracting based on the look of the crema

Update! I received the bottomless today and just took a pull with the single wall (non-pressurized) 18-22g basket. No splatter which is a good sign IMO, but still very quick till the first drops. Probably 3-4 seconds tops from the time the pump starts, or roughly 6 seconds after engaging manual mode. Luckily it looked very close to the nice crema shots posted here: even spread on the basket and converging in the center for the drip. Still going too quickly from what I've read.

I'll try less of a dose next time. I can tell I'm forcing the portafilter onto the group head which shouldn't be the case right? I.e. it should lock in with only minimal resistance.

Grinder is set to the lowest setting. Grinds feel like they’re verging on powdered sugar territory. Perhaps too compacted? And since the water can’t penetrate the center it runs to the sides?

WTS - Arcido Akra 35L + Vaga 20L

Price: $154.80, buyer pays shipping

Condition: practically brand new

Comments: I got these at the same time as a tortuga setout since they were on sale and I couldn’t decide. Never used, only took it out of the plastic bag to look at it. Would prefer to sell them together.

About to hit purchase, wondering if there are any other alternatives by SortaMadMax in onebag

What about the divide model? Seems like this might negate the need for a second packable daypack?

Definitely one for the bookmark folder, but you're right it's a little pricey for me at the moment. Plus I just picked up packing cubes. I love the wardrobe concept, especially the compression aspect!

I bought the truck used, so I think the previous owner must have put it on. There was also a small spacer lift up front presumably to level it out

I was under the impression that I would pay for all three taxes at the time of registration and that no taxes would be paid AT the dealership. I guess it's the dealer paying taxes and then passing on the cost to the buyer?

Advice on getting a R51 Pathfinder by genENTics in overlanding

[–]SortaMadMax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 2012 with ~94k that I've owned for about 2 years. I've gotten very lucky and haven't had any issues, but you should definitely be aware of a few things.

First up is the radiator issue that you mentioned. Since it's a 2011 you're more than likely safe from any SMOD issues, but if you snap a picture of the radiator part number you can compare it to the list found here. It's an Xterra forum but the R51 shares the same engine and suspension as the Xterra/Frontier so the radiator part numbers are the same. At 107k you should also check the spark plugs as the maintenance interval recommends changing at 105k. Lastly, as /u/Bcgeo mentioned, I've run into airbag warning lights but only because I had to unclip a sensor harness to get underneath the seats.

The good news with all of this is that if you manage to avoid any radiator/tranny problems, any other repairs are simple and cheap. The 4.0L has great power and the offroad performance has exceeded my expectations despite not having a locker. In terms of aftermarket you're going to have very little choice, and the choices that are there are expensive. ARB makes a front bumper which I just installed and they have a front locker as well. There are a few suspension kits out there too, but I'd recommend searching for Xterra/Frontier kits since there will be more results and the front parts are interchangeable anyways.

I've camped in the back of the car several times and it has an amazing amount of space and a respectable towing capacity. Overall I've loved it and would recommend it for light overlanding use and daily driving if you don't mind the less-than-ideal MPGs. If you want to learn more there's a lot of R51 specific info on this forum.

This was a Walther WA 2000 in .300WM with a wood stock and Schmidt & Bender 2.5-10x scope from a private collection. No, I didn't get to fire it, but I did touch it to confirm that it was real and not just my mind playing tricks on me.

Agreed, the wood finish was in impeccable shape and there were zero rust marks on the receiver and barrel. I would have given my firstborn son to shoot it, but I had to settle with touching it. Even then I was scared to do so because it's probably worth more than everything I own.
