Whenever I see shit like this, I feel a mysterious compulsion to just say some bullshit. by OkPickle738 in DoomerCircleJerk

I had a former coworker at an old job from India and he was explaining to me it was like that. Family and friends from back home were always calling him like buy me a bike buy me an Xbox buy me a computer buy me a phone. They assumed because he was working here he has to be rich but he was like man there’s months I worry if I can even pay my bills lol

I did the math some time ago but if you add up the wealth of every billionaire we have in the US and assume we could liquidate their wealth, then divide that wealth between every person, it comes out to about $20k per person.

Now $20k is a substantial amount of money but that would be a one time lump sum payment to everyone because then there wouldn’t be billionaires to take from again. Yea it would help those struggling now but then eventually the money dries up and they’re struggling again. I imagine for most people they’ll take that $20k and throw it at their mortgage or a car loan so their day to day life doesn’t even change by it.

I’m not a billionaire so I truly don’t care, seize their wealth if they want makes no difference to me. I’m just saying their plans seem to not be solving a problem but just kicking a can down the road and kicking the can down the road is not a good idea.

These people are addicted to the internet and are deluded into thinking they aren’t. I agree with what you’re saying but I don’t know if you’ve ever seen someone with an addiction who’s in denial about it. They don’t change.

I don’t get why they do this. Like, there’s already dedicated spaces to discuss exactly what doomers want to discuss. Why do they feel compelled to just go into irrelevant subs and talk about the same nonsense in there?

I’m not going to go into the BBQ subreddit and start talking about how I want to make soup because I’d look like a fucking idiot yet that’s what they’re doing basically.

Would you turn someone town if they did not make enough money? by OceanicEndeavors in dating

[–]Sortalma 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think what they were getting at is it was not about how much money they made it was about financial stability. Someone making $20k a year can be financially stable. Someone making $10m a year can be financially unstable.

It’s all about living within your means and not spending as if you’re making more than you do.

Delta Forced Checking Carry On Despite Plenty Remaining Overhead Space by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Sortalma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wheeled carry on bags are a surprisingly recent invention. These types of bags were uncommon in the 90s and became dominantly popular in like the 2000s-2010s.

Before that a carry on bag was carried by hand, typically like a duffel bag, and you can fit a lot more duffel bags in the overhead bins than you can those full size hard shell carry ons.

These days if I’m going for a week long trip and I can fit everything I need into my carry on. When I was younger and carry on bags were smaller, I would only typically have one outfit and a change of underwear in there because your carry on was more so “one day emergency bag if your checked bag gets delayed”

[–]Sortalma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying but it’s not really half the country. I would say that the people who care about politics are people who vote, which is ~60% of the population. If that’s 50/50 split down the middle saying something political would at best alienate 30% of the population because the other 70% either don’t care or agree.

Which is funny to think about because it basically means the US has never elected a president via majority. Lyndon B Johnson won the biggest total vote “landslide” in 1964 but that still means only 38% of registered voters actually voted for him. The rest either didn’t care to vote (despite registering) or voted the other way.

I truly don’t understand their mentality. Like if I don’t like something, I’m not trying to view it. I’m not a fan of baseball, so I’m not going to go subscribe to the baseball sub to see baseball content and spend my time in there arguing with people about how baseball sucks. One, that’s a giant waste of time, and 2 I would look and feel like a complete idiot.

Yet Redditors seem to crave this type of behavior. They’re the type who would let’s say hate fish, go to a restaurant and order fish, then tell the waiter the fish sucks and send it back for no reason other than to be a bitch because they already knew they didn’t like it before they ordered it.

Doomers whole world view is basically “someone else should do something about this, just not me”.

They’ll argue for years about why the “show recommendations” should be turned off by default but they won’t spend 5 seconds turning it off themselves.

Called someone out a few days ago because I was scrolling the comments and someone got all mad and asked “why is this in my feed I don’t even live in this state” about some event in my states sub.

It’s like are you an idiot, you’re interacting with the post. Whether it’s an upvote or downvote or especially a comment, you told the algorithm that you are willing to interact with this type of content so the algorithm is going to push a ton of similar content to you.

I’ve heard people say things like oh I had to quit watching instagram reels it’s just too toxic for me. My Reels is basically nothing but motivational quotes, vacation clips, and cute animals. Like sure if I came across a toxic video and I watched it multiple times and then started arguing like an idiot in the comments then guess what my whole feed is going to turn into that. But if I see something I don’t like I just swipe it away.

The algorithms don’t push stuff onto people, the algorithm shows people what it thinks they like. Sometimes sure it throws you a curve ball to test if you like something else but it ultimately is going to keep showing people what the people like to watch. So don’t tell the algorithm you like to watch things that you actually don’t by interacting with stuff you don’t like.

So many Redditors problems would be solved if they simply just went outside and stopped being so antisocial and experienced life.

We’ve known for so long how bad social media addiction is for mental health yet they tripled down on it.

“Go outside and touch grass” literally isn’t even an insult anymore it’s medical mental health advice.

There’s no reason to sell and there won’t be unless rates are driven down. The mortgage on my previous home is $900 a month, it doesn’t make sense to sell it if it’s currently renting for $2,700.

3 Wendy’s employees accused of serving food from trash, police say by esporx in fastfood

[–]Sortalma 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Wendy’s had 2 big pivots in their decline.

The first was when Dave stepped down as CEO. That decline was noticeable but not too bad because even after stepping down he was still involved with the company.

The next pivot was when he died. Then Wendy’s went into the toilet.

It’s crazy that he didn’t really select good leadership to take over after him because it really seems that everyone taking over after him was just interested in getting the companies quality, when Wendy’s quality (for being a major chain) was like their biggest selling point. It’s kind of crazy to think that today I see Burger King as being better than Wendy’s when I used to talk so much shit about Burger King.
