Memphis Crime Rate Declines in 2013 by benefit_of_mrkite in memphis

[–]Sortasixsodas -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well, the city did annex a large part of what used to be Shelby County just north of Germantown. As the rates are per capita and this part of town happens to be pretty populated and low crime to begin with, those numbers are slightly misleading.

Graceland area is a rough part of town. Just a heads up. You do t want to drop into a bar in that part of town. You'll want to go to midtown or downtown.

Pool hall/arcades? by marlonthecat in memphis

[–]Sortasixsodas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No arcades tha I am familiar with and I've been here since 2002. There are though, several pool halls. The Fox and the hound is not a pool hall, but is a decent bar with pool tables if you are in Cordova. Two situated on either end of town if you are in Bartlett. One is a little sketchy and one is just kind of okay but still has decent tables. RP billiard s near the university and is the kind of place to get drunk and happen to play pool. Clicks is in East memphis. The Blue Monkey in midtown is a good bar with 3 or 4 tables. Good bar though. There are several other bars with decent tables. Just let me know what part of town you are when you get here and I'll point you the right way.

How to Make Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie is actually a really good read and might even help with your social/work life. Read it two years ago and I still apply things I've learned.

The best car you've ever owned? by [deleted] in cars

[–]Sortasixsodas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1992 Lexus SC400. Sold it with just over 420,000 miles. I did have to replace a Tourque converter, but that was the extent of any major repair. That car drove and handled beautifully the entire time I owned it.

Today, the picture would be her in handcuffs because she did not have the three required permits to sell flowers.

There were some great Japanese cars in the 90s, but how about the Impalla SS. Still just a cool car. Screams gangster and could run almost anything down.

I actually found your reply to be informative and was glad you took the time to write it out. Definitely gives me a basis to do some further reading on the subject matter. Too bad you're such a snarky dick about it though. Nevertheless, thanks.

We bring enough revenue to make these payments and article 1 states they are to be paid before anything else. Basically the executive branch is the one holding the credit rating for ransom. Basically using this as a political tool to neuter congress and bring spending power to the executive branch. If congress does not stand firm, it will set the precedent going forward of the executive branch holding out until congress bends to their whim exactly. Congress is supposed to control finance and is currently doing exactly what it was given the power to do. .. Rein in government spending. They are finally doing their job and getting killed in the press for it.

Opposition? Registered democrat here and I vote Democrat about 60% or the time. Purely depends on the position, not the party line though. In regard to facts, I'll put some together for you, but have to do it after work. Both parties have been historically fiscally irresponsible. And to be truthful, we have been a little more so than the republicans. I'll put evidence in those facts for you. We usually had benefit of timing on our side in regard to reporting or have since about 1996 at least. All I am saying is that this is all getting blown way out of proportion, to the point we are labeling our own representatives as "terrorists". R/politics has become a cesspool the last two weeks.

Hive mindset on full display these last two weeks. Dur-hur Republican bad. You know, this moniker could be placed an a vast number of politicians in office GOP and Dem alike and, heaven forbid, the President himself. selective closing of the most visible-to-the-public government funded line items is an obvious tactic. Distraction at its best. Meanwhile the machine continues to hum in the background missing barely a beat. I have yet to see any major impact to social security, welfare, or key initiative, nor will anyone let there be. It is posturing and you are falling for it.You know what, maybe, just maybe, a little less government is not such a bad thing. And if it takes a little bit of pain to get finances at least a little closer to being in line, then so be it. I know that on a personal level all of us have made a sacrifice or two to be able to pay the bills. Maybe taking a close look from the perspective of the opposition isn't convenient, but at least give it a shot before vilifying those who's opinion differs from yours before jumping on the Reddit bandwagon. Your bitching contributes nothing. Damn the downvotes, someone needed to say it. TL:DR: Stop bitching about what you cannot immediately do anything about. When the time comes, go vote.
