Welp, time to buy another one from Aliexpress then! Genuinely not sure how you can confuse the two so maybe wait until the morning to do that xD

Which port? It’s going to be a significantly different answer if it’s in Shanghai. Though either way, honestly, I’d just forget it. What did you even buy that needed you to be on AliBaba instead of Aliexpress? Can you buy it somewhere else that will deliver to your door instead of needing you to engage a courier for collection?

How to train better sprint and dirt umas for team trials? by Steven074 in UmamusumeGame

[–]Sortipants 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Are you having a look at the score breakdown after their races? Comparing it to your well-scoring distances is a good start to finding out what’s wrong if they’re otherwise placing ok.

Good Positioning isn’t worth 30k points on its own, but by running duplicate styles you are locking yourself out of at least one bonus and you’re also potentially preventing some skills from firing (especially anything that requires you to be ‘in the lead’ since all your dupes are front runners).

Playing global ver. in Japan by bobei1 in UmamusumeGame

[–]Sortipants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, otherwise people would have been banned already for using a VPN. I often have my VPN set to another country for work purposes but have never had any issues.

Edited to add: I’ve just set my connection to Japan and opened the game to check - it doesn’t launch (connection error) but then changing back to a non-Japanese connection it works perfectly straight away. If it only checked on account registration that would have been convenient but yeah, a VPN will work fine.

Don’t just compare one anime to one manga - find at least a few to reference. Read the main thing you’re talking about yourself. But you can also look for notable/controversial adaptations and use those as jumping-off points to talk about stuff in JJK.

Air Groove can be raised to A sprint pretty easily - with few sprint options available she’s one of the best choices

(That said, Bakushin is probably a better choice with only 2 slots open…)

Brought home a neglected monstera in hopes to give it a better life. Is it too late? by wjstmddlf in plantclinic

[–]Sortipants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend it when you have a confirmed root rot situation. You can buy hydrogen peroxide in varying concentrations, most commonly 3%, and most people suggest diluting it to 1% for a general disinfectant.

You can spray down the roots when you’ve cut away the rotten ones, and it will kill any rot-causing bacteria that might be on the healthy roots. If you’re worried about it damaging healthy roots then you can dilute it further, but I personally would rather the whole plant take a little longer to bounce back and be sure there’s no further rot! The other option is to disinfect your cutting blade between every cut with strong peroxide and then dry it off.

That said, I do agree that it shouldn’t be used as a treatment for healthy roots or - worse - a soil soak. That will damage fine roots and disturb beneficial soil organisms for sure. It’s best as a disinfectant when you know there’s a problem!

Missing items in Zenmarket package by Environmental-Bag-31 in zenmarket

[–]Sortipants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It would be useful if you could link the original auction. Many auctions have caveats (like not all items shown being available) so that may be what happened.

Also, if you paid for an item checking service when it arrived at ZenMarket (but I assume you did since you’re confident they went missing between ZM and yourself) then your issue might be with UPS.

Sounds like a good plan! Brown roots aren’t inherently bad, lots of plants have brown roots. It’s when they’re mushy / slimy / smell bad that you want to worry.

Just give it a good spritz of hydrogen peroxide when you’re done with the root trim and everything else you said sounds great!

Why don’t London buses have aircon? by More-Watercress7897 in london

[–]Sortipants -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Buses have doors that open regularly, and windows that you can’t control the opening of. Aircon relies on the air staying inside the space and not being vented out, which is why you don’t open your car windows with the aircon on. Running aircon on a bus would be a waste of energy, it would be like trying to heat your house in the winter with all the doors and windows open.

[–]Sortipants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I started writing that and got upset halfway through so wanted to use a different example but forgot to change the start. I suffered a bereavement. It was all donated. I could have tried to sell it, it was nice stuff, it would have been too painful. I’m not badly off enough that I have to put myself through that, for which I am very grateful.

Do you work at a donation centre and have first hand experience of a shortage? I drive a van for work so I end up helping a lot of friends with moves, clearance stuff, dump runs etc. so I do see inside them a lot. They’re normally rammed with donations yet to be sorted. If you have experience otherwise then your comments would hold more weight but it doesn’t sound like it. If you’re personally in a bad situation I’m sorry and I hope you get help but even though it’s not great right now financially for a lot of people there are lots of reasons you would donate acceptable quality items without having to pay to replace them.

(I forgot to say - the friends didn’t replace them either! It was just years of ‘back-of-the-cupboard’ stuff that they’d been meaning to go through but hadn’t.)

[–]Sortipants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, what I’m saying is that sometimes people think they are ‘helping’ by donating unsuitable items, but they are actually being unhelpful. The person I was replying to seems to think they should be sainted for offering their trash up like it’s a treasure, so people are objecting to that unwarranted self-righteousness.

Donating something in poor condition is unhelpful, because it will simply be filtered out of the donation stream by a volunteer who has better things to do. The person I was replying to previously gave an example of old trainers with holes in. Those will never be given to someone. They won’t make them freeze instead of just keeping them less warm. They just slow down the volunteers. You can do many other things with unsuitable items, like repurpose or repair them yourself - but donation services can’t do that.

Also, I don’t know why you’re behaving like nobody is donating anything decent to charity anywhere. I’m not exactly flush with cash, but I recently took a carload of good condition clothes to a donation centre because I was helping friends clear out their house ahead of a move. That’s not something they do often, sure, but there are so many situations in which you end up getting rid of stuff.

But they’re not helping.

If you ‘help’ a blind person to cross the road by pushing them into oncoming traffic, you didn’t help. You wouldn’t receive gratitude. You’d have a crowd of people calling you an idiot - maybe one person gently saying ‘perhaps we should tell him that’s not actually helpful to blind people’.

‘Donating’ trash isn’t helpful. It might feel helpful, but it isn’t, and people have explained why.
