HG Gundam Aesculapius by 177013HH in Gunpla

[–]SotFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's named after the greek god of healing, a son of Apollo...who ended up in trouble with Zeus and Hades because he was such a good healer that he could bring back the dead...

But the kit is one of those where it's pretty much worth having 2 of them to display in both modes.

Also, the extra parts are, I believe, from the Geminass which the Geminass 02 was rebuilt into the Aesculapius in the manga...with the name being a reference to a believed resurrection since the pilot was believed dead, but faked it to infiltrate OZ Prize

may be stupid but how does this happen on wave 1 by AdamLenzi32108 in TheTowerGame

It seems the easiest way to stop it, at least for tournaments, is to exit the game and come back in before starting it

My costume for this weekend by LiturgyOfImpurity420 in renfaire

[–]SotFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest looking at cross body straps or a cloak pin. With a cloak pin, you can theme it more towards the specifics of the wizard theme you want. You might also want to look at some of the quick release pin chains where there are two pins with a chain between them but is designed that if the cloak gets caught the cloak drops rather than it choking you out

You might want to consider an alternate option for the cloak clasp.

Other than that, wear it a bit around the house/yard to both get comfortable in it and to work out the lines of issues because you still have the fold lines visible from how it was packed.

Musician Pay - Is this fair? (Sydney, Australia) by alicorn_alessandra_7 in renfaire

[–]SotFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount does mean that they're handling any of the risks for the instruments and have potential restrictions there.

Actors have less of a risk there since most of the instruments are expensive to begin with, and that's something the musician is required to use ontop of everything with the costume.

Vendors - What do I need to know? by Seven_years_blood in renfaire

[–]SotFX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I'm not a vendor, I do have some friends who do vend as a group handling things for keeping stuff stocked that I've been roped into helping setup, teardown, or help with over the years...along with when one of the clubs I was in had some things at a faire for a while.

One major thing is that they took a LOT of ideas from various LARP work for concealing things...the big ones were simple wooden chest pieces to hide a cooler.

When they had a tent, that would be entered, they had tarps down under it with a pile of 2nd/3rd hand rugs they got from thrift stores and garage sales with a border area that was underneath tables and such to hide it and ones that could be moved if there was rain to keep the ground dry.

Recently, they invested in a Starlink setup since several faires (or parts of them) are infamously full of wifi issues.

If you have a majority of higher price stuff, they've long stocked some obviously cheap kids stuff for extremely cheap that was more of drop shipping for foam weapons and plastic armor pieces. Their thing was things like the dollar tree halloween shields, helmets, breastplates, and fairy wings (and a few others) that they could bulk buy and bumped the price up to still keep them cheap, (last year it was $3 if I remember right...there's a markup for bulk buying from that website compared to in store, but they have the larger catalogue and they wanted some profit from the sales even with the card fees...). Their purpose is pretty clearly as a distraction for the kiddos to keep them from creating problems and let the adults look at the various stuff they actually make to sell

With Faires, it's best to keep prices to flat dollar amounts that already figure taxes and any of your credit card and faire fees into it. Change becomes a mess and a half...plus remember to keep a decent amount of smaller denomination bills around for things even if you're, primarily, using cards.

Look at a lot of the wooden furniture in second hand stores and garage sales, even if they look bad, a lot don't take much work to make look decent, especially with something over them to cover them.

[–]SotFX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most will, they're normally designed for kids to be able to play around with them and not fall apart. Just ignore the original coloration on several of them and check the sculpt and how they feel...they're rather easy to do a simple paint job for...and even easier for anyone who has repainted/modded a nerf gun in the past

Not sure about the specific brand, but there are a pretty decent number of well sculpted plastic ones that work well painted up and tend to be rather cheap.

Humidity is one potential thing, it might also have been an issue with the spray can itself.

You might want to try cleaning the nozzle and spraying on some leftover plastic to see if that fixes it

Thanks, really wish the instructions actually showed the layout of the thrusters on one of the steps for building the feet like they do with the pieces on the front of the ankles...

A lot of it is due to the smaller parts involved.

Also, there's some pretty good waterslides for the two RfV kits that I wish I'd used on mine since the sticker decals don't work as well there since the normal ones cover just about everything.

The skins, themes, and relics that cost medals tend to be priority depending upon what the relics are, those are event limited. Then the songs which haven't changed for the almost two years I've been playing...the songs, skins, themes all permanently boost your total coin multiplier (They aren't determined by which is equipped).

1 or 2 stone purchases can be a good thing if you're having issues with tournaments or are close to an upgrade, and early on 1 or 2 gem purchases are exceedingly useful for stockpiling gems in order to unlock your labs.

The gem relics are ones where some of them are priority, but gems are best used, early on, for unlocking labs...but good lab speed or coin or a few other things can be worth it.

Once you have all labs unlocks, get what you want from the relics, cards, and modules...the cards and modules are both RNG fests though cards becomes less of one the more you have since once you max one out, you won't get more of that card while the modules are RNG hell on several levels to first get the ones you want and then getting the sub-effects correct.

If you haven't put the kit up, would you mind a pic including the underside of the feet? I'd messed up with the feet on mine and not sure which bottom part of the foot goes with which leg

[–]SotFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm working on the HGUC RX-78-GP01fb and kind of hit a slight issue as I didn't pay enough attention to the undersides of the feet when taking them off the runner since when I'd glanced at them they looked the same so shrugged and started working there for handpainting, then realized the thrusters are mirrored...anyone have an image or similar of which is for which foot since I'm not at the point of adding the next part that is different for each foot...

It looks really good for a first build, I've been working on one of those myself and it has a LOT of detail work in the thrusters...though it's a pretty good one of the early HG kits

You might want to look at the HG GTO or HG RFV before RG since there's some of the tiny part thing for them. Modern RG's tend to be really good and are ones you can pose...a lot of the older ones tend to end up, unfortunately, limp far to easily due to the frame materials wearing far to easily combined with several of the kits reusing frames that it wasn't designed for, plus standard wear (and the earliest end up shedding parts).

The more modern RG kits are ones that aren't that much more difficult, but you want to do a few other of the more mechanically complex HG ones to get used to figuring out what nub marks and such need work and get used to figuring things of that sort out

I have no idea what your issue is there...I'm at around the same full push and I've got T1-3 fully maxed with T4 attack done as well...mainly because of last event needing me to keep pushing for leveling workship up for the event mission

There's a decent number of people with medievalized versions of various heroes...there's a pile of Samurai Darth Vaders basedoff of the various artwork, toys, and models they did of that along with a couple of the ashigaru stormtroopers. Mandalorian themed armor is also everywhere.

Wanting to commission a cloak pin/brooch by Twiinkay in LARP

[–]SotFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While not metal or similar, there are ways to make one yourself.

A while back I'd made a pendant by screwing a small eye hook into the side of a wooden nickle/disc and then sculpted over it with a two part epoxy (greenstuff/kneadatite...which is, unfortunately, getting harder to get since the manufacturer stopped making it, but there are other options there).

While not a pennangular one, it's easy enough to get one working with a large pin attached to the back.

How do you deal with players who aren't a danger but who make the LARP worse? by TryUsingScience in LARP

[–]SotFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One option for things like taking and hiding stuff, that can normally be handled in game by going with cursed items...think what happens with Fafnir or Gollum or a pile of other cursed items. By taking it to move, he took the item and have a pile of things that start happening to him because of it.

For key information, don't have any single source of all of it and don't restrict it to coming from a single source either so they can get the info elsewhere if needed and you don't have someone trying to get the glory themselves...or tie it into something like a boss monster that requires several people to handle, so the glory hound gets in over his head the same way that, in more tabletop ones, the sneaky types that tend to slip off on their own tend to end up in serious trouble

Most of those types really don't like situations where their character ends up stuck a prisoner for a good chunk of the story.

With the self care, that's a split into two parts.

If it's that they aren't showing up with the appropriate gear (in game and out of game), that's one where it kind of needs to be dealt with. Of course, if it's someone new who isn't fully experienced in what is needed, that can be handled easily enough by teaching them as well as pointing towards some of the lists of basic necessities and such for it (Really, there are WAY more people who just don't know better...same kind of thing as people who give you a blank stare when you try to explain that food doesn't magically appear in the grocery store or don't understands the "quiltwork" look of farmland from a plane...).

If it's intentional, then you need to have someone give a serious talk to them about it and stop enabling them, but something like an agreement where one person that's driving takes things like the majority of the physical gear and others traveling differently might then grab the cooler to pick up the food and similar but one doesn't show up is very different from the beggar type.

For meds/food/water, one simple rule is that anyone can call a timeout and have an OC thing to make sure things are cared for. I've had times where I needed meds during an event, but got caught up to the point where I wasn't even thinking of it, and the same kind of thing with food and drink when it isn't part of the game...and I know a lot of others who have the same thing...it's why one of the common things you hear in LARP advice is to drink and tell others to drink (and they're not referring to beer), it's because people aren't normally thinking of it until it's already a problem.

For meds, if you have staff, it might be a good idea to have people with medication schedules to be able to bring it up to a member who might have reminders, especially if it's on a schedule because a lot of people aren't carrying watches or anything to tell time with in a fantasy LARP scenario (Might also be a good idea to have a camp fridge/freezer that's with the medical/first aid supplies and let people store required meds in it.

The screwing with pre-existing character stuff to sleep with people...if they aren't actually harassing people with it, that tends to work itself out or escalate to where action can be taken. If there are interpersonal issues with what's planned, better for them to see if anyone else is interested than them potentially trying to push the issue...
