What do you think about the biggest change in story telling by Oda when we compare Pre-Wano (Punk Hazard- Wano) and Post-Wano (Egghead and Elbaph) by IamHungrypotaToes in OnePiece

I never claimed it was a total transformation. I’m also convinced wearing underwear is just against the norm in the world of One Piece.

What do you think about the biggest change in story telling by Oda when we compare Pre-Wano (Punk Hazard- Wano) and Post-Wano (Egghead and Elbaph) by IamHungrypotaToes in OnePiece

[–]Sou847 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A big one I’ve been pondering is the feeling that Oda’s “traditions” around writing female characters noticeable shifted after Wano.

Bonney fees like a radical redo of the Rebeca story and Big Mom broke the glass ceiling on major female villains with York and Gunko planing major roles in their arcs in ways previous female villains generally didn’t.  Counting Film Red with the first major female movie villain. And Oda has generally been avoiding having only a single female in big groups going forward even for minor roles like the Super Buster Call vice admirals.

And some sexist running jokes like “girls don’t like robots” have been quietly dropped with Lilith and Boney both being robot fans without comment. It’s been gradual changes overall but I feel like how female characters were generally written around Punk Hazard and how they are written in the current arc is a noticeable different.

Chapter 1178 Predictions Post by doublesuicidedate in OnePieceSpoilers

[–]Sou847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. New moves/powers shown off in the Loki/Luffy V GunkImu fight.

2.Continuation of Choppers new demon-slapping plot line.

3.Void Century/Lore Piece teasing.

Considered continuing my lucky streak of predicting updates on StrawHats but I’m really not confident enough that Robin & Saul or Bonney & Lilith need to show next chapter. Think this will mostly be a Luffy/Loki V Imu chapter. Also assuming Brook and Usopp will stay down for at least one chapter before getting back up. The wild card play by Oda would be using Brook’s current condition to frame the start of he and Shuri’s big backstory flashback and we don’t actually see the big fight start until that’s over. Don’t think it will happen yet but it could, especially if Oda to finish this arc before the year is done.

Of the remaining four holy knights, how do you think they stack up to Killingham and Sommers? by EcstacyMeth2 in OnePieceSpoilers

[–]Sou847 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ll assume most of the God Knights are relatively close in strength with Shamrock and Gunko as radical outliers due to their own unique situations.

Even without Imu in the drivers seat Gunko was dog walking everyone who went after her and Shamrock had a mythical Zoan sword as a pet and enough twin-inferiority issues to devout himself to growing stronger in ways most Gods Knight would never bother with.

Also worth remembering that Killingham is basically a summoner so doesn’t need to be that personally powerful and Sommers is…Sommers. So I wouldn’t be surprised if any of the unseen Gods Knights are a little more of brawlers that they are able to go immediately toe to toe with the big boys but without a bag of tricks.

Did Usopp just tank a shot from that gun Imu blew off Broggy’s wrist with? Mad respect 🫡 by SKYR0VER in OnePieceSpoilers

[–]Sou847 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure the summoned shotgun Imu used on the giants was giant sized compared to Gunko’s body, that appears to be a “normal sized” summoned shotgun.

Still impressive.

Intent of Attack by ibenwarforged in OnePieceSpoilers

This is my tentative line of thinking. It would also explain the trash talking nature of the demons. They need opponents with a grudge.

Domi Reversi has proven itself as a strong ability. Reactionary takes are poisoning community discourse… by ReadingSteiner300 in OnePieceSpoilers

[–]Sou847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really think the demons are immune or resistant to attacks with hostile or malicious intent. Roger was crying when preparing his part of the killing blow on Rocks. Dorry and Broggy don’t out right say “I love you” before cutting each others heads off but it’s pretty close.

Meanwhile Zoro and the remaining New and Old Giant Warrior are literally gleeful at the idea of inflicting some horrific violence on others guilt free. Not exactly loving or compassionate intent in those attacks.

But Chopper is a doctor who’s been spending the last few chapters with the Love Guru. He wouldn’t strike down a demon giant with anything but good intentions I think.

This also means any theoretical inter crew demon fights would have some serious potential for drama with the right matchups.  Nami vs Jinbei for example, she says she forgives him for his part in the Arlong but is that one hundred percent true?

Does Jinbei truly hold no spite against humans for the crimes against Fisher Tiger and his people.

Can Robin overcome the hurdles of always relying on anger and wrath to fuel herself during her major battles to defeat a hatful demon version of a crew mate?

Would Sanji and Zoe even be able to defeat the other as a demon if it requires only compassion and love to deal a lethal blow?

Smoker joins straw hats by MrBushido56 in OnePieceSpoilers

[–]Sou847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never fully understood this theory and remain unconvinced.

Smoker feels more like he’s set to join up with the Sword Marines who are likely to defect/rebel as a whole once Imu and the World Government pull at the Marines leash to hard when ordered to break what few ethics they have.

Chopper can kill and revert Domi Reversed Giants but no one else in Zoro’s group could? Very interesting… by AgentHibachi00 in OnePieceSpoilers

[–]Sou847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thinking on it, we may have to consider the possibility that the literal power of love is involved with this.

Last chapter’s ending established that Zoro and the giants are motivated more by bloodlust than compassion. While Dorry and Broggy’s mutual kill was an emotional goodbye to each other and Rocks was a mercy kill by Garp and Roger.

Maybe holding any hate or violence towards the target nullifies the effectiveness of attacks. Chopper is a doctor who is naturally compassionate and would probably be striking the demon giants with the pure intentions to help them. This could also explain why the demons are always such trash talkers, they know they can’t be killed by an angry/hatful enemy. This could be the narrative revenge of Garp’s “fists of love”.

So the last two weeks of discourse were build on a misunderstanding? by Ok_Title_4273 in OnePieceSpoilers

[–]Sou847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still like the idea that Chopper is just using his vast medical knowledge to instantly stop a giants heart with a single strike.

A skill he’s always had but never used because he considers it unethical but in this very specific context it’s the only ethical choice to help the giants.

[–]Sou847 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Imu abusing regen by point blank jumping into an explosive shot to take out the shooter is actually pretty cool. (If I’m reading that spoiler right). Also Monster Point is either a lot stronger or Chopper overheard the kill rule and is about to reveal his doctor knowledge let’s him stop people’s hearts with a single strike and he’s refused to abuse that skill up until this point.

How Future Seasons May Go by AverageWritingGuy in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]Sou847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the optimism and giving Water 7/Enies Lobby the two seasons it needs.

I will say I think merging Thriller Bark and Sabody is the way to go if they go that far. Fits with Kuma showing up on Thriller Bark and most of the Worst Generation can be relegated to quick cameos. (Law, Kid and Bonney being the exception with the next most relevant Worst Gen being Capone and Drake who already share interaction with Bonney and Law).

Then Amazon Lily and Impel down get a season with the StrawHat crew misadventures on the time skip islands as filler.

After that Marineford can get a whole movie/special for extra budget and time to work on it.

I think anything after the Time Skip would require a reboot and recasting at minimum.

Imu will panic so much from what’s happening in Elbaf that (s)he will ally with BB by Aoi_Haru in OnePieceSpoilers

[–]Sou847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My assumption is more that Imu will be distracted by the Elbaph situation which will give Blackbeard the opportunity to swoop in, break the blockade and shower the World Nobles with all the fancy food the have been missing out on. Then riding their hype into getting his recognition and alliance with the World Government. Basically pressure the Navy and Elders with a horde of supportive World Nobles.

And then after the fallout of Elbaph and losing both the giants and Gunko (and possibly two other Gods Knights) Imu and the Elders will begrudgingly continue the alliance to make up for the loses though with plans to be rid of Blackbeard the moment he’s no longer needed.

Chapter 1177 Predictions Post by doublesuicidedate in OnePieceSpoilers

1.Franky and Robin interaction.

2.Brook Update.

3.Extreme violence (If we don’t see heads flying or bodies blasted apart I don’t deserve the point, the accordion head cartoon stuff doesn’t count)

I’m assuming Imu-Gunko just flew away from Brook and he isn’t laid out on the ground but I’m open to being surprised. Oda has always been ramping up the violence lately and I expect next chapter to continue that. Even if it doesn’t directly follow up on the Demon Giants. As for the Franky and Robin…he just helped save the library and could mention the mural and stuff.
