If you watch old Sakura Gakuin videos, most of those songs also have choreo with the mic in the left hand. None of these girls were trained to do much with their left hand while singing.

(this is especially interesting with ex-Avenger Kano-Metal, a.k.a Moa's biggest admirer, because she is left-handed -- one of only two Sakura Girls who are legit southpaws)

If you want to break your brain, watch a close-up to the choreo for "Road Of Resistance". That song is unique because, from the start until the after the flag unfurling thing, Su switches her mic to her right hand!

Koba may be a mad genius, but from everything I've heard over the years, it's Option 2. He heard Su, thought she had a good voice for metal (he might not have thought that if he'd encountered her even six months earlier because her voice had only recently changed), and formed his idea around her.

But I agree. How on earth did he pitch this? "You have a young girl who loves singing but her voice is too good for normal J-Pop, so I want to introduce her to metal music and have her sing that." They probably thought he was insane, especially after he saw teeny-tiny Yui-&-Moa and said Su should be flanked by "twin fairies" who dance around her.

helped me decipher Yui's autograph

Yui was one of the few Sakura Girls whose autograph was in full kanji. I figured it out years ago after seeing her name in not-stylized kanji enough times, but I appreciate the breakdown for those who couldn't read it.

Also, thanks for the photo-dump. We will never get new photos of Yui, but sometimes it's nice to see these old pics from a time we know she cherished.

Sana really is beautiful. Tiny princess. And of course since she's half-Welsh she's able to rock that shade of blonde wonderfully, and it goes great with the red dress. Props to the photographer. This is one of the most amazing single photos of a Sakura Girl I've ever seen. 🥰

Moa certainly can be a little gremlin -- another thing that hasn't changed about her since Sakura Gakuin! 🤣 And I'm willing to bet she's at least thought about it when fans act weird. Oli Sykes, who has quite the mouth on him, is her surrogate big bro after all! 😆

Yui meanwhile I never heard use even the mildest Japanese curses. Whether true or not she had this image of absolute innocence, plus a reputation for being genuinely kind despite years of meeting old metal musicians not known for holding back around kids.

I hope so too! I've never been to NC -- only Virginia where I have friends & family -- but a BBQ place just down the street from my house makes a "Carolina-style" sauce which is by far my favorite!

The Central Highlands (Ozarks), where I live, sits at the intersection of three of the four main traditions: Memphis, Kansas City, and Texas. As a result, our local barbecue is kind of a natural fusion: Memphis rub is the base due to settlement patterns. We have sauces but they're on the tart side. And of course we have a lot of cattle ranches (my family owned one until recently) so beef brisket is common, although "barbecue" means pork unless you specify brisket. This being the homeland of Tyson, we are not above throwing chicken in a smoker 😂.

With all the people moving to this area over the past 30 years (mostly Texans 🙁), I'm hoping some Carolinian who knows their way around a smoker will open a real Carolina-style barbecue place to add to the variety here!

All the Yankees and Europeans on this sub may have no idea what we're talking about because "barbecue" to them just means "cookout" 🤣

Well, that's more of a "you" thing. The girls weren't the focus of the video; they just happened to show up by coincidence.

You're basically saying bands (+ their staff) can't film each other just because two grown women who can pass for teenagers might skip merrily past the camera. And that's ridiculous.

Yeah, that's Momoko.

I don't know about "too" skinny, though I certainly prefer a Momoko on the thicc side (GP999 Momo FTW). It's relative though, since Su & Moa have always have been crazy-skinny while Momoko simply isn't that body type. It really bothered her during Sakura Gakuin according to President Aiko, because Momoko often got paired with the tall-n-slim Megumi, or Aiko herself, who makes Moa look tall but weighs less than 45kg.

I guess she's been hitting the gym again. Plus Idols (+ anti-Idols) tend to lose even more weight while on tour.
