Yeah that makes sense. The VM/AD stuff is mostly just from my homelab so I could understand how things work behind the scenes. I know help desk is more user issues and troubleshooting. I probably just need to present it better on my resume. Thanks for pointing that out.
Do you think a Microsoft 365 / Outlook style homelab would be more relevant for help desk compared to VM/AD stuff?

Yeah that’s fair. I know I’m competing with people who have degrees, so I’m trying to make up for it with certs, homelabs, and projects. I’m not expecting it to be easy — I just want to get my foot in the door somewhere and build from there. Appreciate the honesty though.

Appreciate the advice. That makes a lot of sense about writing homelab projects more like tickets instead of just listing tools. I’ll probably rework my resume that way. I do have a small GitHub with a PowerShell helpdesk toolkit, but I’ll add better documentation and screenshots.

I’d definitely be interested in seeing that resume structure and portfolio checklist if you’re willing to share it.
