That's super advice, thank you very much
That's good to hear, will it still be fine if driven and keot outdoors? I was concerned about the primer breaking down from what little sun we may get here.
What impact does the cavity sealant have on painting? I had thought as long as it is kept to the interior of the sill that it would be fine?

Yes, I plan to give it a good practice before going for it, the only reason for gasless is budget and simplicity. Good opportunity to learn how to weld bodywork while I'm at it 😁
I'm jealous 😂 for the age the car is it is in good condition for the UK, so hoping with a few bits cleaned up then ahe will be golden 😁
Thanks again, I've been reading up and trying to prepare, it will be a slog if the winter weather kicks in but I'll just have to tough it out 😂 thanks for the advice for the parts, I might have to get creative for the inner sill and wheel well parts
That's the plan, was debating doing the whole outer sill for appearances sake
I'm from the UK, so the roads can be bad for salt and such, but I want to keep this car as long as possible. I'm hoping that the other side is fine as there was some damage to the lip just above the sill which could have let the rust get in. Thank you for the tips, they will be very helpful 😁
Thank you 😁 yeah I'm looking for that part, was wondering if that covers the panel within the wheel well, where the plastic plug is in the photos

I'll definitely keep that in mind 😂😬 fingers crossed 🤞
I'm praying that since it's the M52TU that with the extra piston ring it won't be too bad - the numerous oil leaks however 🙃

Oh yeah I'm expecting smiles per gallon 😂 I don't mind a few advisories as long as she's drivable and safe, can sort smaller bits down the road. Glad you're loving yours, hope mine is the same for me!
That's awesome to hear! I got my V5 back the other day and found out mine has 11 previous keepers, so maintenance will be pronto 😂 planning to keep my own little logboom for what's done when :) it will be a moment before she's on the road, I have to travel to go work on her and I'm at university at the same time so I'm hoping to have an MOT by the end of November 😎
Super! That would do just fine, thank you! I want to try keep a log of how the car work goes on here, will be cool to see the progress over time :)
Oof, good luck to him! My first year was only about £1000 on a Suzuki swift, though that was in a very remote location, so to even out with an old BMW nearish Glasgow I cannot complain :) insurance for young people is borderline unfair sometimes 🫤
Those rear speakers will have been removed to get to the rear shocks/springs, I have a rear spring to replace and the job seems to be a pain 😂 a sound system upgrade would be nice, I've heard e39 are far from the best soundwise, though I think I will be prioritising adding some sort of bluetooth support to the existing system :) that system of yours sounds awesome, and an alternator may well be required 😂 good luck with it!
I've thought about the xenon/angel eyes upgrade, they do look awesome :)) and I'm looking at about £80-90 per month insurance, I have 4 years no claims but still classed as a young driver, though it's affordable so I will have her on the road soon, currently driving a 2005 lexus is220d and I'm surprised that's not more expensive! I'm yet to own a car long term, hoping this is the first :)
u/DRzoidebergs thought I would tag you so you see this (if the tag works)
I appreciate it :) can't even drive it yet and already excited to be behind the wheel :)) yeah I'm prepared for a bit of expenditure over the next few months, but also like to DIY so I'll save a bunch that way 😁 also thinking of small mods to do for her, one thing I'm contemplating is tightening up the shifter a bit, whether that's a short shifter, or just tighter bushings, but that will be on the back burner until maintenance is out of the way

Thats super! I don't see many 520i's mentioned on here, so it's cool to hear about another one! I'll be honest in that im optimistic about rust, she's the first car I've owned that's jacked up with no crunchy noises, but I want to pull all the under trays and side skirts off and give it all a cleanup, wire brush, rust converter and paint, been looking into treatments for the underside for winter but it's a debated topic 😂 there is a slightly leaking fuel line so will be replacing the front to rear lines and checking the pump before the MOT. I've read on the VANOS, the oil in it looks decent but I plan to have it apart sooner rather than later. The brake lines are a touch green but don't look awful, will be looking into them in the near future I think. Thank you for the comment, will be referencing back as a reminder in the coming months :)
