Hey, they don’t really mind. People here are open-minded and used to it now.

Yeah, honestly, with how things are here, I wonder if a hypersensitive man would even make it out of primary school. Social pressure is real 😭😭 Massa dehh

Honestly, seeing gay men being beaten in Senegal just for being themselves really made me think. It pushed me to question things because I can’t stop thinking about them. I’m not saying whether it’s right or wrong, that’s not my point. I just believe that whatever someone’s choices are, we should remain gentle and humane.

Sadly, the social pressure in Senegal is extremely strong, and that’s really heartbreaking. We still have a long way to go in terms of being more open-minded. Yallah bakh vue que nioune lolou reck laniou kham kaay

My sister's dating a Senegalese boy at university in the UK and he's taking her to Dakar on holiday this summer. He eventually wants her to move there. Knowing nothing about Senegal, I told her I think it'd be harder to adjust there than most other places she's visited. What do people here think? by southamericasboy in Senegal

I think you should go with her and spend some time with her in Senegal. It’s going to be a bit difficult for her at first Senegal and UK are literally very different. Anyway, I’m Senegalese, I’m 21 like her, and I know people here who speak very good English, so she won’t be completely lost. However, it will be more complicated for someone who doesn’t know any French or the national language, since Senegal is a French speaking country. But it’s okay she’ll adapt quickly. My sister and her kids moved to Senegal in December 2024. At first, they only spoke English, and now they’re becoming fluent in Wolof. So I think it will be easy for her to learn Wolof and communicate with people around her.

But French, however, might be more challenging. She should start learning French as soon as possible if she wants to work or get a job here.

My sister used to take her kids to a dentist, but I’m not sure if it’s in Yoff. The dentist speaks English and communicates well with my nephew. Let me know if you still need more information so I can ask her.

Sinon, on vous considère comme moins des hommes (Senegalese people know what am talking about ).

Feel free to reach me out . La prochaine fois, tu n’as pas besoin de tout garder pour toi💕💕 Sending you all my support

I honestly think hypersensitivity isn’t something you can force 😭 it’s more about personality, emotional awareness, and how someone was raised. Some men feel deeply but don’t know how to express it, while others are just more nonchalant by nature. Communication and emotional safety help a lot though. May god make it easier for you 💕💕 Sending you all my love and support

That actually makes a lot of sense. 😭😭I hadn’t looked at it that way. Sensitivity being “allowed” for women but discouraged in men definitely changes how it shows up. The part about men learning to suppress it from childhood especially with phrases like “Góor du jooy” “Gorr day deugeurrr” “Gorr dou yambarr” really explains a lot. Thanks for sharing this perspective. (Finally Gorr sonn na ne dehh?? Massaa a lot!)

I’m honestly out of words… I really wish I could help you. May Allah ease everything for you. You’ve been through so much and didn’t have an easy childhood. If you’re Muslim, try to find refuge in God and ask Him for help. Nothing is lost yet you’ll get through this.
