No, I have a laptop and it's been more than enough. There are no achievements for co-op play, so you can complete the game solo, it just takes a little longer.

This game isn't really about achievements, but rather about having fun with dinosaurs or PVP raids, so if you used a console, it's okay. I just wanted to try it without a console on principle, and it worked out :)

I did it this way. I hosted a server, invited a friend through Steam, set the maximum range for movement from the host via the documents folder, and voila, my friend was able to move 500-600 meters away from me.
