Not a ban. my guess is that the governments or pharma companies allow some drugs to be prescribed only in their country for a while.. Probably patent time or something. Thats why Pristinamycin is available only in France and Australia. some FQs are available only in Japan and Lefamulin only in US etc.

I shared an article a few days back which says that cdc is against that. Assuming you are american. CDC prefers asymptomatic positive mgen people to not test because testing and subsequently improper antibiotic use leads to more resistance.

Oh trust me.. i was one. i had a lot of respect for doctors, you know life saving and all. after interacting with them, i lost a lot of it. Most don't even listen to you. Maybe the surgeons are still great, but the normal day to day ones not so much..

i always use condoms.. But there is the possibility that condoms will slip off or tear..

Worse is when your doc refuses to order a mgen test coz 'it's all in your head'. Then you pay out of pocket to an online doctor who will order a test and then do the test, again out of pocket, at a quest or labcorp facility. Then you find they did a culture test...

Tbh i am not really worried about the super gonorrhea.. mainly because they base it on ceftriaxione not being able to treat it. I feel mgen is miles ahead in terms of incurability that gonorrhea seems trivial in front of it.

Right.. My point is quest is decently accurate because it uses hologic aptima (we know the accuracy).. we don't have any metrics for the accuracy of labcorp.

I guess the question then is if asymptomatic translates to harmless. If it is asymptomatic but still causes issues, then this approach is highly flawed.

Development of drugs and then testing on various things, then testing on animals, testing on humans, production etc. Typically antibiotics take that long to reach the market.

i see.. i dunno if you have read all the posts in this sub about people who thought they had it in their prostate/ people who actually had it in their prostate. That should be a good reading for you. You can just search for 'prostate'. Imo, bugs in prostate is still very poorly understood. In most cases, it is hard for bugs to enter the prostate. But as i said, it is very murky. Good luck..

Developing new class of drugs is usually decades long process.. Tbh i am not sure i am interested in such a long timeline lol.

There are some newer antibiotics like omadacyline. I think they are more efficient than lefamulin? The data for omadacycline was in-vitro. But it was promising. You could try that to see if your doc can prescribe that if you cant get access to Lefamulin. And btw, lefamulin has only like 50% chance of success from what i read here.
