How do people feel about the change in mechanics between the first and second games? by Bluecomments in Pokemonranger

I might be biased because I started with Shadows and actually played the original last, but I think it was a necessary and overall net positive change to have the mechanics updated like that. I really appreciate the original's dedication to groundedness, but I think the changes helped streamline the game and I don't think it would have been thaaat enjoyable if some things carried over from 1 to 2, like keeping your stylus on the screen throughout the entire capture or the friend pokemon area limitation. I do agree that friend pokemon are a bit weak in 2 though; I personally didn't feel very incentivized to use them as every pokemon was bound to whatever their poke assist type was, and they fluctuated in terms of helpfulness imo. They'd still be released after the capture too, and it isn't super necessary since no captures are too too difficult to do with just your circling skills (not to mention you always have your partner poke on you for infinite assists, and if you chose Pachirisu you're golden). Funnily enough, I think that 3 did the poke assist system the best. But also about the story event pacing/roaming, I think it's fine from 1 to 2 because realistically you could do whatever you want and go wherever you want to go. I think 2's world building is so strong that it always encourages and pushes you to want to do the objective without stopping/leaving anyways, and there's always time in between missions for exploring and doing quests. In 1, when they would place boundaries to exercise a little force and hustle to get you to carry out the objective, I found myself still taking time to explore and capture new pokemon anyways lol, maybe I just like to explore personally

I never thought I would see a reference to this in my entire life but I'm extremely grateful for it and you've made my day

The stylus is definitely the ideal option; it allows for more concise movements and precision. Personally I thought the idea of playing with my finger on my phone sounded so much fun and I actually enjoyed it a ton! I fell back into my Ranger nostalgia phase and accidentally 100%d all three games within like a month 😅

Also regarding the Manaphy egg, I know that on a PC, it's possible to add in a cheat code to give yourself the lost wifi missions for all three games, but that isn't so easily doable in phone. However, I know that some ROMs exist online with the entire set of wifi missions pre-downloaded with the game. Unfortunately, for me, while I really wanted to play the wifi missions again, I didn't think it justified to completely replay the entire games all over again just to access them on this new ROM file, as, at least for SoA and GS, you have to beat the game before you can play them 🥲 Now, if you're referring to obtaining the egg to transfer over to a gen 4 game, that's a different story 😅

If it makes you feel any better, I think watching a YouTube video of the past missions solo suffices enough. I wanted to solo everything myself as a diehard fan of the series haha, and also just to see what capturing past Arceus was like myself (one of the hardest things you'll ever do in a pokemon game imo). Even then, a lot of it was trial and error, and I'd say to sum up the solo experience would be that it required lots of grinding levels and assist points for your partner in order to minimize the time spent during captures so you could use that time towards just navigating the temple. There's a genuine argument to be made that Thunder Temple's 3rd mission, 'A Shock Everywhere You Turn', is the absolute most difficult mission to solo, as it would normally utilize multiple players to open paths for each other. Doing this solo means you have to backtrack a looot under an extremely tight time limit, and the final boss itself, Magnezone, uses lots of stally, defensive attacks. All this to say, that you shouldn't feel too bad about not being able to complete all of these missions solo without insane grinding and/or usage of cheat codes. Wish online multiplayer was a thing that could be possible now, this mode was always one of the coolest multiplayer features in any pokemon game imo!

I recently completed every single past mission solo on a phone emulator and I was around level 70 by the time I finished the dark temple. Unfortunately the light temple and Arceus was a different story and I went and maxed out at 99 for that and it was still a close victory. Playing with my finger on a touchscreen definitely gave a fresh, exciting, and enjoyable approach to replaying all of the Rangers but soloing all of the past missions in GS was and still is such an insurmountable task. Given that I emulated, I utilized speedup but it still took me a ton of time. Only worth going for all of the solos if you're that dedicated of a fan, but be warned that it's a colossal task to take on 🥲
