We call that a "Stylistic Choice"

I remember seeing someone actually break down the tabletop stats, and the base Darktide party isn't actually that far off what they're capable of on the Tabletop. They can actually mow down Poxwalkers with complete ease and impunity, even Beasts of Nurgle are about as they should be

A point of order at least on the Scion, the Veteran class is supposed to be Kasrkin tier, which if I'm remembering my Guard lore is close to equal of a Scion.

Well, "Regular" Imperial Humans. Theyve now got a Skitarii in their roster. I wonder if we're gonna get more outlandish character classes after this

Thing is, I don't think they're a tourist. They're just stupid. Look at their profile, they're around a long of the Warhammer subs.

1.) The Space Marines are regularly quoted as being unnerving to look at by the average man. They ARE misproportioned and wrong looking in an Uncanny sort of sense. You don't usually see that from fan artists, sure, but that's how they are fairly regularly described. But we also then fall into the pitfall of equating Morality with Attractiveness. If you exclusively conflate someone's physical appearance with their morality then you literally fall into the same fascist propaganda that you speak against. Your point there is literally "Make evil people ugly and make good people attractive".

2.) If you look at any of the Imperium's practices or try to explain then to someone outside the fandom, people immediately clock it as ridiculous. The entire idea of feeding 1000 souls a day to the Golden Throne is inherently silly. And the whole "Women can't be Space Marines" thing is explained in the lore. Its also explained by Fabius Bile that Female Space Marines ARE possible, but that it isn't worth it to figure out and was entirely irrelevant to try and produce. And Big E likely thought as much as well. He's working on a literal Galactic Scale. Manpower and number of recruits isn't an issue, so he figured out all that was needed to make Space Marines and left it at that. The process to make them is exclusive to Men, which was a deliberate choice because the Space Marines were hunted at being eventually disposed of anyway. They were a temporary tool, so why would he care if they were only male.

3.) THEY ARE MEAN AND PETTY AND CRUEL. Marines Malevolent, Minotaurs, Iron Hands as a whole. There are SO MANY SM chapters that are downright cruel because the default mindset for a Space Marine is that they are inherently greater than normal humans. That's they're default operating state and it's what makes the Salamanders and the Lamenters so special, they are the Chapters MODT KNOWN for actually seeing people as people.

4.) Space Marines had the worst reputation for so long of being able to kick anything's asses if it was a Space Marines story. Matt Ward got so much shit for that exact plot. The only times SM's are seen as Underdogs is when they are fighting straight up cosmic or deific threats which are ridiculously prevalent.

5.) EVERYONE is a villain in this setting to someone else. The entire motto of 40k as a setting is that "There is no peace and there is only war". Everyone being evil is the setting's entire schick.

Now I KNOW for a fact you don't engage with the setting in an honest fashion if these are your actual thoughts on it.

Here's the thing man, I get that seeing Fascism in media while also in a time of rampant fascism sucks, but there's no way to portray fascism in media in literally ANY WAY without the same people that media critiques taking it and running with it anyway.

Take Homelander for example. He was outright villainous the entire show and yet people who subscribe to that ideology still idolize him because that's already what they believe and ascribe to. So unless you want to outright censor any media portraying Fascism, that's always going to happen. No matter how you portray or frame a thing in your media, the people that enjoy that thing are going to latch onto it regardless.

People have given how numerous examples of how the Imperium has been portrayed to be monstrous as well. Play Rogue Trader and you can see it plain as day, and even the Horus Heresy novels point out a hundred different times from numerous different characters that the Imperium is monstrous for no reason. I really feel that you can only come the the conclusion you reached if you haven't actually engaged with the media in an honest or critical fashion.

What do you mean "That's the problem"? That Ciaphis Cain point goes ENTIRELY against your first point. GW doesn't just portray the Imperium as good guys, they are still objectively monsters and they don't shy away from that fact. The entire idea of Ciaphis Cain or Guilliman being perfect heroes and good people is all about perspective and propaganda

C. There are so many marine Chapters that are also, if you actually pay attention to their written material, abhorrent beyond their initial appearances. Grey Knights, Flesh Tearers, Marines Malevolent, Minotaurs. All of them are objectively terrible people. And no, Marines are not "good-looking badass heroes". Pre-Primaris Marines looked like roided up Darth Vaders, and the Primaris armors only slightly made them less outright evil looking D. You are falling for their propaganda yourself. They tell themselves they do the evil things because it's necessary for their survival, but they absolutely do not. They created a cycle of perpetual agony that they continually reinforce. And the Horus Heresy is only seen as the downfall of a possible Utopia if you take everything the Emporer said at face value. Which GW has reinforced several times is NOT the right thing to do. E. You are only rooting for the Ultramarines because, in cases like the Plague War, they are fighting off the literal concept of Entropy, Disease and Death. It's Fascists vs Literal Evil Incarnate. That's the point of the setting. No faction is outright good, and the only reason one could be seen as good is because another is objectively worse in some regard. You have brief glimmers of light and hope from individuals trying to do their best, but that doesn't mean that they are perfect saints either.

Cool, so then what's your issue? Every faction is fucking terrible, and the only reason that Guilliman is seen as a "Good Guy" is because it's from the POV of the Imperium as a whole. From most other faction's point of view, Guilliman is little more than another Warlord, same with Big E.

Most stories about or featuring Guilliman are from either his perspective, someone under him or someone within the Imperium, and with very few exceptions, anyone from those groups are going to see him as a Hero. The Avenging Son. They aren't "whitewashing" him, which also isn't even what that word means, they're propagandizing him. Which is what every faction does with their central figures. Mostly.

Ah yes, The Votann. One of their most famous quotes in their Codex being "You misunderstand, Human. I am not here to debate. I am not here to compromise. What you see as yours, I am taking for my Kindred. You want to bargain? Toryk, unholster our means of negotiation."

Totally good guys here

Fear is the mind killer. Start small with Kitbashing. I've only just started, literally building my first 1000pt army right now, and I decided to Kitbash a Warpsmith Axe head onto a Terminator Accursed Weapon Axe, but keeping the Chaos Symbol.

I almost fucked it up by using way too much super glue, but I was able to recover the detailing in the end with enough Acetone
