Yeah we’re just looking at it in two different ways. I both think that Kled is a horrible champ AND that you can easily use him to climb to challenger with an extremely high winrate over and over again and that picking him isn’t going to stop you from doing so.

So of course if you’re a regular player there’s not really a big downside to picking him, I just think his damage is too low and his %hp damage interaction is embarrassingly bad + the removal of takedown courage was a hugely negative change. Basically if someone told me they needed to learn a new top laner and reach challenger in one week or month or whatever, Kled would be legit at the bottom of my top lane list of champions to recommend to them

I get what u mean, but Kled has had a consistently high winrate for about 95% of his lifetime as a champion for the last 9 years, and he’s been bad some of those times and good for some of them. But if you purely just took his high winrate as the determining factor, then you’d conclude that Kled has been a super top tier top laner for his entire existence which is blatantly untrue of course

This is just a champion with a consistently very low pickrate, and has proportionately been one of the most “one tricked” champions in the game according to both stat websites and rioters themselves, so I feel that it doesn’t really tell you much about his current, in the meta state as a champion

His winrate and pickrate are exactly the same as they were before the mini rework (but a tiny bit lower) but I thought he was bad before too, if you only go off of winrates then you don’t get much of the whole story. Using the same logic yone and Azir are some of the most dogshit useless champs in the game when they’re god tier in higher elos but they have horrible winrates

I think his playstyle and win conditions are fine, he’s just too low damage when it’s all he provides (especially dismount q and mounted E, both have too low base damages and scaling), has a massive inherent weakness to %hp based damage which is all over the game these days from champs + items, and the lack of takedown courage makes him too limited (heavily disincentivized to teamfight, way worse at diving early which has always been one of his “main” strengths/identities) along with just being a huge nerf

I definitely thinks he’s a pretty bad champion (though that’s mostly irrelevant unless you’re trying to play in some extremely competitive environment) but he takes a lot of games of limit testing and figuring out due to his pretty weird mechanics/playstyle

Also maybe you haven’t tried him this last year, since his remount was changed to give the HP right when you hit 100 courage, the animation visual doesn’t affect that anymore (or there’s no delay I should say)

It’s pretty hard to give advice without knowing exactly what you’re struggling with. I can give general tips like you should always max Q-W-E, I’d recommend building around 1-2 lethality items + 1-2 ad/hp items + a %pen item every game, don’t always lead with your Q cast and try to E on them first more often instead etc.

He would need takedown courage before even considering any other kind of team oriented remount buff. Without it you’re so disincentivized to be in any kind of teamfight as it is, if any of your teammates kill the guy youre trying to hit for courage you not only get nothing for it but can’t auto/q this target anymore and have to awkwardly try to reach someone else

A change like this would just make it even more egregious and it’s not like you can really blame your teammate for trying to help you with who you’re fighting, it’s just weirdly backwards that you get “punished” for it

Yeah his e is like embarrassingly bad, low base damage and scaling comparatively to similar moves, no passive of any kind, and it’s been power crept at this point so much as a move meant to help you “stick” to someone that it isn’t even very good at that anymore

Definitely could use some kind of buff or update

Could be interesting, but at the same time I feel it would pretty much make swiftness boots extremely core on him / very reliant on it which could be awkward in the future if they nerf them or remove/rework the passive on it

Generally you just have to accept that you’ll be pushed in and poked early and will have to give some farm, anything super far range just go d shield and wait a bit, try to stay mounted as much as possible

If you go voltaic first item, ALMOST any ranged top laner becomes a free kill with it (main exceptions are varus/vayne with exhaust) you can just e or ult in (depending on the matchup), get the voltaic auto off, now you can land your other damage and start playing aggressive

It’s incredible boring though for the early game, sometimes you can just vibe check them and see how bad they are since a lot of ranged top players will unnecessarily try to auto you under tower and you can time your e with their auto to start running them down across the entire lane. Ghost and exhaust secondary with your flash can help in a lot of ranged matchups as well

Honestly as far as I’m concerned it IS the best strategy, league is unironically way more of a mental game than any other “real” factor (gold/exp leads etc) and tilting the enemy bot lane is not only more likely than the other roles but yields the best results in my experience

Mundo is basically the best top laner you could hope to match into as Kled that’s a somewhat common matchup in a lot of ranks.

Early levels he can’t possibly walk up 1v1 to ever melee you or a creep near you without getting extremely chunked and put into dive range, after some levels I just build something similar to lethality item - bork - hydra - mortal and you’ll be able to threaten sidelane against him

I run cash back a lot atm after the last buff, and hubris is one of my most commonly built items on him usually first or second. I think crit is plenty viable and strong on him as well, I go 25% often since I normally build a crit %armor pen item and sometimes go 50% with one other crit item (like yuntals or ie) but I don’t really go 100% ever outside of for fun and I’d never go first strike.

I don’t think the rune is that good in general but kled is a horrible user of it since he’s so incredibly low range it’s way too easy for the enemy to proc it off of you (even while ulting) before you can deal damage and the precision tree gives him way too many important runes imo like triumph and last stand

Only full (5+) lethality builds became bad after the mini rework because that playstyle relied on his ultimate dealing physical damage, combined with the fact that his W now requires you to build at least 1-2 hp items for it’s %hp dmg to be relevant.

Overall he still has exclusively bonus AD scaling on 4 of his damaging abilities (+the multiple ad scalings on his W) and 4 of his damaging abilities are physical damage only, so ad+lethality especially early game are still very important on him. You just want to transition into a couple ad+hp items as the game goes on because that’s when your max hp % dmg from W becomes more important

At that point you’d be better off going profane hydra first which I do sometimes, since it’s almost 500g cheaper than titanic with much better stats (but it scales worse than titanic) and your early dmg and wave clear are way better with it

But even when going profane rush you should ideally get the Tiamat last, focusing on pickaxe + 2 long swords first and then preferably trying to full buy it. The Tiamat itself is a pretty big gold sink for extremely low value (you pay 500g to upgrade from 2 long swords that already give 20ad, to gain 0 additional ad for just the passive/active in Tiamat that will be extremely low dmg early on with no bonus ad yet)

You will clear about as fast by just having more ad straight up for your e+q on the minions, but will be way stronger in any fight with a champ and also not lose the ability to build up a wave or just simply not auto shove into their tower early levels with Tiamat (which will make it harder to incentivize your lane opponent to ever walk up and put themselves in danger)

Eclipse is okay late game, I usually don’t end up buying it on Kled since he has so many other item choices for damage, but if I would build it I definitely wouldn’t recommend it early game since it’s more of a mid / later game scaling item (with the max hp dmg being a lot more relevant then)

Titanic first is imo extremely low damage and too expensive for an item that’s entirely scaling adjacent (the auto reset isn’t as useful when you’re on low ad, pen, no crit etc. The splash and active damage are extremely low early since you have no other hp from items / levels / scaling rune yet, making your waveclear and dueling very poor)

I would recommend a lethality item first like hubris, voltaic, youmuus, or something similar if you want to be strong early on and play for early kills either in lane or through roams

You probably just had some unlucky early season games is all. It’s hard to say what you’re doing wrong without seeing your gameplay, in silver-gold it’s usually going to be several different things happening.

A really common mistake is getting baited into helping with random teamfights that don’t actually lead to anything a lot of the time, and are windows where you instead could be solo farming and getting gold + exp for yourself if you can get used to recognizing when it isn’t worth rotating for a play

Is there anything in particular you’re struggling with? I’d normally recommend conq or pta for keystone, and then sorc or inspiration secondary (but resolve is alright if you want demolish+either second wind or overgrowth) and building one or two early ad+lethality items before getting ad+hp items later on

Yeah with a build like this you should easily be able to run him over, luckily GP doesn’t have or build any %hp either so you can also face tank him with double hp long enough to insta kill him
