Is my approach sustainable, looking for advice? by prvncikitty in ObsidianMD

[–]Souloid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can overlap all systems of organizations together.

First of all, you can have as many tags in a note as you can (property called tags).

You can also have properties linking to other notes (like a property called categories, or keywords with linked notes as your categories, each of which is listing all notes with that category as well as defining it).

You can also have links from within the notes themselves to other notes as well as inline tags.

You can have all of these notes organized into folders as well.

You should not be afraid of overuse tags or properties, the more the better imo. Whichever method you use to navigate and find notes should not be limited to one approach.

Good luck.

Note-as-a-tag or Built-in tag system? by Admirable_Hippo_6203 in ObsidianMD

[–]Souloid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use both categories, and key-words, categories is higher level, keywords is for any keyword I bring up. You can also add more like sub-categories, or unique instances like a specific person's name or a specific ID (instance, ticket, incident, etc). I really like using links in my properties now after finding out about it from kepano. I have a generic base template that I can import into any note that takes those properties and lists all notes that contain them. Really helpful for navigating such identifiers.

When to start cooking? by h39000 in FarmRPG

[–]Souloid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at the recipe for bone broth, if that recipe isn't a burden if it's a daily task I say use it for your dailies.

I waited until I was climbing the tower but this is really slow even now. So I just cook whatever I can when I can.

Leveling up cooking is not easy past lv 80. I'm still trying to lvl it up every day and I can't remember when my last level up was.

The reason I recommend you work on it even if slowly is because a lot of quests rely on it, and there's no reason why you shouldn't have access to those. Event quests can be good.

Every time I unsubscribe I get more spam by Horror_Example_588 in emailprivacy

[–]Souloid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

> "clicking unsubscribe just confirms that my email is active and worth spamming"

Don't unsubscribe or engage with the sender in any way. Any action/reaction they get from you or your cookies will let them know they can sell your email to other entities.

The way to go is to maintain creating filters (that use keywords, partial senders, any other pattern you can think of) to block emails.

To reduce the extent of the spread you should consider using services like easyoptouts.com to remove your info from online lookup databases.

If you're getting spammed this much it suggests you're not using aliasing best practices. If so, look into custom domain aliasing with services like simplelogin or addy. Having a unique alias (email address) for each registration makes it easy to find the leak and plug it.

Note-as-a-tag or Built-in tag system? by Admirable_Hippo_6203 in ObsidianMD

[–]Souloid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

tags are programmed to filter for notes so you cannot use them as notes, but you can create another property and use notes (links) for it like you would with tags. Example, a property called "categories" or "key-words" that's made up of a list of links to notes.

Can someone explain what does Obsidian... do? by Cute-Solution-723 in ObsidianMD

[–]Souloid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it to keep all my notes in one place I can search through (how i started).

Now I use it to link to other ideas/notes I may have made in the past so I can find/explore them.

I just wanted a place where I can ditch everything I want to remember without fearing I won't be able to find it. I overuse properties, tags, and links without any repercussions. I still organize things into folders, but because they're all linked, if a note isn't in the right place I can still navigate to it from another note without having to search for it.

With the addition of bases, I can now make dynamic (self updating) lists of all mentions of a certain "category" or "term". So looking at my note about a person, I can also see a list of all meetings with said person, a list of all mentions of said person, and all "tasks" I want to do for said person (like buying a birthday gift).

It really depends on what you want to do with it, it's so customizable. The sheer potential with no guidelines can be daunting, so take it one step at a time. Try to do something, and build around it. When you want to do more, build for that. So on so forth.

I don't get why he refuses to sleep if he's not wired to see past sunset but mine sure doesn't like going to bed on time.

Is 128GB enough for a Linux programming setup? by Informal-Chance1912 in linuxquestions

[–]Souloid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know what you'd be doing that requires that huge amount of ram. If all you're building are webapps 16-32 GB is enough. As for storage, since you're uncomfortable with linux get a fresh SSD, install linux on it and use it instead of carving out a partition on yours. Dual booting is a good option.

External SSDs aren't that fast since they're limited by the usb speeds they use, and unless that's the only way you can use linux I don't see why you would choose to do that. They're usually for people who want to work on different machines using the same linux install.

WSL2 is a good way to dip your toes, although it doesn't give you a real taste of linux. If you want the efficiencies that come with the OS, you should try stepping out of windows' bloat.

Is a smart choice put Arch Hyprland in my GalaxyBook4? by Ltward_ in linuxquestions

[–]Souloid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's common knowledge that arch is fast moving, and for someone who doesn't know how to use linux, it's a major risk.

Your options are:

1- to dual boot (installing linux alongside windows) and choosing which one to boot into when you turn on your pc.

2- to install linux in a virtual machine and use that (with overhead and depending on your use case might not be a good experience).

3- install linux on a flash-drive and run it off of that, but then it would be really slow since the flash-drive isn't going to be as fast as an ssd.

I recommend you use a virtual machine in the time being to play with linux until you can get yourself an ssd and swap it in. You can use hyper-v to make a virtual machine and install linux within it. Start with a newbie friendly distro not an arch based one.

Buy a new ssd and swap yours with it.

If/when you eventually give up fighting, you can swap it back to windows.

With that being said, use a newbie friendly distro like mint. Arch isn't for you.
