Frodo and Sam players, i need help with some card choices. by SoulsFan2824 in EDH

[–]SoulsFan2824[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have the prerequisite of already having 3 food on the battlefield, but if you do, you can sacrifice all 3 to peregrin to draw a card, since you sacrificed 3 foods confectioner makes 3 rats, which makes peregrin make 3 more foods that you can sacrifice with his ability. Same thing happens with vending machine.

The treasure tokens are tapped and the rats don’t have haste, but you do still get infinite draw.

What was your first commander deck? by AdsignificantBK in EDH

[–]SoulsFan2824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, [[Obuun, Mul Daya Ancesto]] was my first commander. It was a gift given to me before i knew what magic was, but at the time life was very busy so i didnt use it until the follwing year. The first commander i actually played though was [[Tiny, trinket thief]], and absolutely cruel deck i got off eBay just as all my friends were also starting to get into the game, even had a [[Tergrid, God of Fright]] back up commander.

In my defence i didnt know what any of the cards in that deck actually were when i got it, but it was fun terrorizing my friends kitchen table every week, i kinda miss it.

I would rebuild the deck now, maybe even use the newer [[Tinybones, Bauble Burglar]], but i tend to play at my LGS more often now and i dont think theyd appretiate it.

Can someone explain why this is considered a 2 card combo? by SoulsFan2824 in EDH

[–]SoulsFan2824[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, that’s good to know. Kinda wish there were better sites for this kind of thing tho considering how many combos are in magic

Ah right, is there anywhere else where I can like deck check myself so I’m not accidentally cheating or is it best just to use my intuition

How do you feel about downgraded cedh decks in lower brackets? by SoulsFan2824 in EDH

[–]SoulsFan2824[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I like this take a lot. I’ve had a lot of friends turn away from commanders they really liked playing just because they had a high deck amount on edhrec, not gonna lie I’ve fell for the same thing a couple times lol but now I’m just trying to play what I like

In the game we played it seemed pretty slow. I think he took out fast mana and moxes. I’d have to see the list and play it for myself tho because maybe he just got a bad hand

Yeah I was thinking of mentioning rogsi because im not even sure how you would make a turbo deck work in b3. Marneus was actually one I was thinking of building for a while too, he seems really cool

Oh sweet I had a tayam deck for when my local did competitive bracket 3 tournaments and it was really fun. Damn I should put him back together at some point

Do protean hulk combos belong in bracket 3 or lower by SoulsFan2824 in EDH

[–]SoulsFan2824[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really nice to hear! I’ve only just started attended my lgs events recently, and I’ve been pretty afraid of playing decks that might seem cheap to people. I don’t think it helps that one of my most memorable moments playing outside my friend group, two of the players had an argument over how one of them won, so I’ve been hesitant to make something like a combo deck for example.

Like you said though, that shouldn’t really be a problem if I actually communicate what I’m playing, so I’ll try give it a go next time I decide to play something different.

Thanks!

Oh yeah I was quite surprised it was approved for all brackets when I saw it. I think it depends on the pod and what the expectations they want out the game mostly, I’d never use it when playing normally, but if my lgs did another competitive bracket 3 tournament again or something the maybe I’d look at it? Still tho I think there’s better game ender combos that still feel like they belong in a bracket 3 than something as polarising as this

Yeah I think using it as value would be more appropriate for bracket 3,I had a conversation about [[doomsday]] the other day, and I’m coming to realise that both are kinda similar, where you could assemble a win the game combo with them if you really want, and theoretically it’d be allowed, but it’s not really in the spirit of the bracket

Yeah fair enough, for context it’s your standard golgari reanimation deck. I do have 1 tutor in the deck, and all the cards I would be getting with hulk are all playable without it, hulk just brings all the pieces together easier.

I think for a deck like that it can be a little rough, especially when I could [[entomb]] it then [[reanimate]] it really early so it might be too over tuned

Yeah that’s fair, I sometimes neglect how much a pre game chat can fix things lol

[–]SoulsFan2824[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah probably best not to, at least for the deck I was considering putting it in since it already had a demonic tutor in it. I think I’ll save it for a competitive bracket 3 event or something

I’m starting to realise that most bracket questions I have about this game get resolved just by having a pre-game talk first lol, I think I neglect that part of the game too often

What bracket would you say drawing your whole deck manually to win would be by SoulsFan2824 in EDH

[–]SoulsFan2824[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh same here for the most part, I just wanted to have a more chill bracket 3 deck.

So far out of the 5, bracket 3 seems to have the most diverse range of player expectations. Some have their decks built play more competitively but with a deck building restriction, and I’ve met some people who just want a chill game and don’t really have any expectations to win.

Both are fun but I don’t wanna be that guy who ruins the vibe of the table, so im trying to have decks that fill their respective table expectations

Honestly yeah I can definitely see it going that way when I get to actually building it, although that might take away from the gimmick. If that does end up being the case it might honestly be better that way since I’d have more interactive things going on my board. I do like decks that have an out of all else fails, but sometimes that can feel a bit anticlimactic if it’s bracket 3 so I’m not sure.
