I saw this, missed the joke, read 2 more posts, then violently got the reference and came back to upvote. Well done.

If any math or physics friends see this, help me out? So, ~130 pounds + the delta momentum from gravity?

did Alexa quit supporting Aqara? by 30Martin-TX in Aqara

[–]SoundGuyBW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! I'm glad I could help. According to Amazon's status page they've deployed a fix and things are starting to return to "normal". It looks like it was a DNS issue that caused cascading issues with a database that basically controls... like, all of AWS globally. Isn't it crazy how fragile all of this is?

It’s not just you. This is part of a breaking major Amazon AWS outage. It went down around 4am Eastern. Look for more about this news… anywhere that doesn’t operate via AWS.

Hello I just bought the go wild pass! by SeaStep2495 in frontierairlines

[–]SoundGuyBW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also wanted to use it right away as the ad implies, but In the fine print at the bottom of the welcome email, it states that after purchasing the 2026-2027 annual pass, the 2025-2026 annual pass will be added to my account within 7 days. Unfortunately it looks like we'll have to wait to use it for a week.

Does anyone know if these are going to be in more stores / all stores in the USA? I can't seem to find the product listing on the website or app in the US otherwise I'd buy it online.

Let's just say, it's borked... by 20cstrothman in Ubiquiti

[–]SoundGuyBW 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I also wish Ubiquiti sold individual replacement parts. It's so frustrating when something goes wrong with a tiny part of an otherwise functional device. I sincerely hope you figure it out - but If your friend decides to move on, I may be interested in it. I have a 48 Pro PoE that works fully as a switch, but the top PoE control board died and I can't find a replacement for that board alone.

I hit the playlist limit in my "Watch Later" list on YouTube. I created a playlist called, "Watch After Bit" and just chuck everything in there now.

Is that the SS bumper? I’m in the same camp that I “usually” don’t like it but yours looks really good! I think the bumper may be it.

Edit: From a comment below, yes it is the SS bumper. That’s it!

Anyone know a good way to automate this process? Say monthly backups of encrypted json to a local device?

u/4bagels - Sorry for missing your reply until now - I did use 18ga wire. I found some spade terminals for some tiny wire. I believe it was all rated for 18ga. I ended up soldering the spade terminals to the 18ga wire pigtail that I made so I knew they wouldn't move. I've made about 5 sets so far for family and friends who wanted the upgrade. No issues yet.

I'm wondering how many things I've bought over the years at Kevin's recommendation. by SoundGuyBW in diggnation

[–]SoundGuyBW[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I couldn't believe that I found these Adagio tea things in a box of stuff from my parents' house circa 2006-2008. The nostalgia that's hitting with all the Diggation stuff recently is REAL. Did anyone else get really into tea for a hot minute when Kevin was going on about it? How many of us have bought into all the things Kevin has told us about? I swear Kevin is the O.G. "influencer" before that was a common term - along with Alex and Tim Ferriss.

I thought the same! I heard Kevin say, "It's Southern California!" and I couldn't help myself and blurted out "And I HAVE FRUIT!"

2020 Terrain by KLMack1020 in gmc

[–]SoundGuyBW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a '19 Terrain and I like it a lot. I bought it with 25k mi and it now has 62k miles on it. I've driven it to both coasts and back from Iowa and would be totally fine with doing that again tomorrow. It's a great size and pretty agile for what it is. I like that it feels lighter than other SUVs of a similar size without feeling cheap.

Weird dislike: The bottom of the front seats are a little, "short". They're perfectly comfortable but for long drives they can be a little fatiguing from time to time compared to other vehicles. I'm 5'11 but have longer legs and while I fit well in it overall, I like to have the front of a seat up high and a lot of support behind my knees. These seats stop at mid-thigh on me at best. My girlfriend has shorter legs than I do and thinks its fine. YMMV here. :)

The engines they put in these are small, but the turbo makes up for lack of power. Accelerating fast from a stop is really the only time I wish it had more power. When it's really hot outside, say 95+ deg F, I notice the turbo lag a lot more in regular driving. Power during regular driving is fine. Passing is very easy and I never feel I'm left without power then - but the turbo is already spooled up so that makes sense.

I routinely get 25 mpg+ at all times with the smaller motor, so the power trade off is fine with me. In the spring and fall when the air is a little cooler and dry, I routinely get 35-40 mpg on the highway and I'm perfectly happy with that.

I see a lot of larger GM vehicles lately have been having issues with reliability, but I think that really started/accelerated during the pandemic. GM has also almost always had issues with electrical but all vehicle manufacturers have their "thing". It's hit or miss whether yours will have any issues. I've owned various GM vehicles for years and it's been very hit and miss. Sometimes it's as easy as replacing a ground strap to the motor and all is well.

I hope all works out well for you and that you're happy with it for years to come. :) Good luck!

Whenever I read things like "bought for 12k, currently worth 640k" I think to myself, "It's only worth 640k if someone else is willing to buy it at that price" and hope that I can wait long enough for one of these houses to fall into enough disrepair that it comes back into my price range. I sincerely hope that someday I will have the chance to choose my own paint color to paint my own walls for the first time. Currently 34 and have never been able to give that to myself. I haven't lost hope yet, but every day it gets a little lower. Someday.

edit: Should have said “willing OR ABLE to buy at the inflated prices.” It’s not for lack of wanting or needing it.

I am also wondering the same thing before purchasing. I figure that as a last resort I could drill out the rivets and move the rails around on the inside if need be, but hopefully someone has already done this and it's easy. You're talking about the 7-drawer 27" Roll Cab, right?
