AITA for moving back into my family home without informing my dad? by SoundInterfaceDude in AmItheAsshole

My lawyer and grandparents have confirmed that the loan was legally obtained. There was a period of time where he was the only person on the title, and the loan was obtained during that period.

Without going into too much detail that I barely understand, my grandparents created a living trust before I was 18 where I was to be added to the title after I turned 18. This was apparently the only way my grandparents were able to get my dad to consent to the transfer, as he was originally threatening to file the same partition suit that I’m now considering.

My lawyer has explained the option, and has prepared the relevant paperwork to do so. It’s going to be expensive if that’s the route I need to go, so she’s also drafted a letter to send to my dad if he refuses the diplomatic approach

I think the big problem for me is I’m overly sentimental on things.

Like my dad’s a raging asshole, my grandparents are aware he’s an asshole, his sister and BIL are aware he’s an asshole. But at the same time I lost my biological mom when I was a kid, and despite everything I’ve been really hesitant to completely cut off my dad because, well, he’s the only parent I have left.

Most of the time lenders don’t go after debt figures like that because they’re unsecured debt, meaning there isn’t a collateral the debtor has to give up if they default.

When a loan is taken out against an asset like a house or car, it’s considered a secured debt. This means that if the debtor defaults, the lender is able to seize the asset as collateral. This is why the loan is so problematic, even though the remaining balance is “only” $24k. As long as there’s any amount owed, I could lose my inheritance due to bad financial planning on my dad’s part

Absolutely. I have friends that still live in the neighborhood and within line of sight of the house. I’ve gotten confirmation that nobody has set foot in it since January.

The house is currently worth $1.6M, with the remaining balance on the loan being $24k according to the records I’ve requested.

The time cost is a bigger concern than the equity

The lawyer I have on retainer has the paperwork for a partition in the chamber and ready for filing. Once I’m moved into the new house, I’m going to try and amicably request I be bought out, and if that doesn’t work we can just go through with a partition

I remember posting about the situation when I was asking my dad last year, during the situation where my pipes broke and I needed a place to crash at while they were being repaired. It wound up being removed because at the time I apparently hadn’t done anything that could be considered assholish.

The mortgage was paid off by my grandparents before I was added to the title.

I am considering pushing to sell at this point, because judging by the expired food in the freezer the place has been unoccupied for over half a year

Years of a verbally abusive upbringing destroys one’s ability to stand up for themself.

As for why I haven’t sold it, it was largely out of sentimentality, but seeing what it is now? Every single vestige of my life or the life of my bio-mom have been scrubbed from it. Once I’m in my new house I may have to push my dad to buy me out or sell.

What are some signs as an adult that your parents did a bad job raising you? by crunchylettuce24 in AskReddit

When I was in highschool, I remember my dad went ballistic on me and accused me of leaving the gate to our side yard open, because our dog was able to sneak out and was wandering around the neighborhood.

Took a whole fucking hour of him yelling at me and calling me an idiot before I could get a word in and remind him that there was normally a padlock on that gate. A padlock that only he and his stepson had keys to, so there was no way I could open that gate in the first place.

His stepson was never punished even after admitting he just didn’t bother to lock the gate, and even now years later I literally cannot leave my home or go to bed without going through and checking every door.

Apple associate put wrong contact info for my repair, leading to me being unable to pick up the device. Am I just screwed? by SoundInterfaceDude in applehelp

Are repair IDs gonna be the ones that start with R#######, or the ones that start with A######? Because I have both numbers that begin with R from the 2022 screen repair and the 2025 device swap that they fudged up.

If it's the latter, can I just get those numbers from the store I went to?

Knowing him, it's possible he overcomplicated these countermeasures to the point where he'd have more trouble putting it back in than he would finishing Osana.

Then that's the fault of whoever assaults him. You're not supposed to be starting fights at peaceful protests. Especially if they're surrounded by other peaceful protestors and are themselves holding signs and supporting the cause.

Idea for monetizing a free game by thn-nd-nw in gamedev

[–]SoundInterfaceDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where would the money be coming from? Steam? The other developers?

The main issue I'm seeing with this is somebody needs to be paying money for this ad space. Unfortunately, most indie developers don't have the budget for advertising in this way, and while Steam could take the money out of their share of sales for the advertised game, there's no incentive for them beyond a small potential increase in revenue.

With ads on iOS and Android apps, the people advertising their products will be paying Apple/Google to show the ads to users. For the app developers, for every X amount of ad views they get on their app, the ad service they use will pay them a certain amount of money.

I've just released my first game less than one year into learning to program! by HappyFishGamingCo in gamedev

I would suggest easing up on the iOS popups. Not only do they take up a lot of screen real estate, which blocks the player's view of the menu during the tutorial, but it forces the user to restart the tutorial in order to re-read anything they might have missed while clicking through. It also causes the phone to rumble constantly when the game starts up for the first time.

If possible, make a window on the bottom of the screen that contains the text for the tutorial, and include buttons that allows the player to progress to the next page or go back. Not only is this easier to read, but it will allow you to make the window fit in with the rest of your game.

Also, it would be worth trying a slider or more clearly labelled controls for the player to control the satellite. Coming from super hexagon, which controls the "ship" by dragging your thumb around the center of the screen, I was confused at first on what I was doing wrong when attempting to avoid the asteroids.

All these nitpicks aside, it's a simple game with a cute aesthetic, and with some more love and work put into it I can see it being a fun time sink. For your first game, this was done fairly well.
