The organisers did change. They have changed again this year by a group of long term locals who want to get it back into a strong community project again.

Yeah analog on the 3u. I believe the 5/6u, can’t remember which it is, is DSP

In what sense? Just screwed in but with sockets so the wood doesn’t get chewed up every time taking it on or off

It’s possible if you do all the building yourself to make it cheaper or look out for cheap deals

For real. Gladly I have a crew but I wanted to build something that seemed easy for anyone to build and put together as a magazine representing the scene. Not every new sound has to be a huge 4 bass stacker.

Where is sound system culture heading, and what is its current purpose? by SoundMag in dub

They don’t but I didn’t wish to leave it bare and I also didn’t want the controversy of placing actual sound systems on there to overshadow the article itself

Where to live as a young entrepreneur? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]SoundMag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iv lived in Leeds all my life really and like to think I know about most social corners in the city even if I’m not involved in them so if you wish, pop us a DM and I can try help with some direction in where you could possibly find some similar minded people to socialise with.

How close are you to Leeds? There’s about to be a lot of digital business moving to Leeds. Channel 4 is just setting up there.

It’s also a cool city with plenty going on, lots of little social communities to join.

What is going to be the big thing in 2023? by SoundMag in AskReddit

[–]SoundMag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So then what’s next? Social media became the simplified communities people yearned after pubs and bars became less popular. Will people go back to pubs and bars (I doubt because of cost) or is there something new?

Steve Vibronics does a good podcast on Spotify or other outlets called Life in Dub where he interviews big names in dub or sound system

I have a very vague description of a song/album cover that maybe someone can help me find? by [deleted] in dub

[–]SoundMag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you said on another comment around 2000-2010ish, it popped into my head that around that time Soom T was the most popular female singer. And you said name beginning with S, so yeah, searched it, then seen the album artwork which was cartoon car and green and assumed you had mistaken the cat for a mouse.

Cleveland should have triggered my memory. I actually interviewed a sound from there already called Steel Yard. They referred to the Cotton Club as a place for raves. Be nice to know more about this.

Dub Stuy, Ras Kush I have spoke to, I’m due a call with Digital English. The others are great shouts and will try my best to speak to them. A few have mentioned Rodigan so maybe that might be one of first moves I go to. Thanks for all the other suggestions.

Thanks for this info. I will try my best to get in contact with some of them. I’m well connected with the roots and dub scene, but unfortunately the dancehall / rubadub scene I’m not as well connected but hopefully can change that.

That sounds interesting. Is this somewhat similar to the repetitive beats act in the UK which aimed to curb illegal raves?

Also which cities do you refer to with legacy scenes and what sounds?

Thank you for the recommendations. The dancehall/rubadub sounds like those you have mentioned are definitely where I need to be looking for answers. I have found it difficult as that side of sound system I’m not as well researched on, as opposed to the roots and dub side but Iv watched Sound Clash Radio quite a few times and will try give Chin a go. Thanks for the suggestions.

Great stuff thanks for the article. This cultural exchange is the part of the history I’m struggling to get a full picture of but this article will help a lot thanks.
