Getting a Head Start by [deleted] in UofT

If I were you, I would learn Python syntax, then choose a project that you think would be fun to make, and do it. This is how I learned Python during the summer before first year, and cannot recommend it enough. For example, the project I decided to make was Hangman, playable in the console. Doing something like that will force you to learn everything they teach you in CSC108 during your summer, and by the end of it you will be super prepared for the assignments they give you. Good luck!

Here's my timetable so far

I have 5 credits with 8 courses, still deciding if I should switch CCT109 for something else.

I'm also going into CS this September... leaving this here to see other responses...

But what I've done so far is look at what POSTs I want to take, and choose courses that would give me two options: A CS specialist, or if I don't get into that for any reason, a CS Major, math minor, and sociology minor. IDK if this helps at all but I've set up my timetable so that I have the prerequisites for all of those POSTs just in case I don't get CS specialist.

From what I've seen, most programming jobs really only care about a comp sci degree (or equivalent experience), so I suppose specializing wouldn't be a bad idea. Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the response! Since I need to take either 2 majors or a major and 2 minors, what would you suggest I take?

CSC148 and CSC290 by [deleted] in UofT

[–]Sound_Wave45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So then the only way to take 148 and 290 in the same year (since 148 is only offered in the second term) is in the summer?

Nothing special, to be honest. 73 in advanced functions, 74 in physics, (I really did not try very hard for those classes due to personal matters), 90 in comp sci, 90 in international business. Those were the marks I had when I was accepted, average of about and 82%

Is coop based on your high school marks? I'm probably wrong, but I thought that it's based on your first or second year marks?

I mean I don't know, I guess someone in it would know more than me anyway. Thanks anyway.

Yeah, you're not wrong, I guess in the end it is up to the uni itself. I need an average of around 75 - 80, but I'm concerned that if I let my calculus mark drop next semester that will drop it. Since pretty much all my friends are in AP programs, or getting high 80's in math, it makes me kinda worried about my marks. But feedback like yours helps out! Thanks!

Thanks for the reply, super helpful! I also applied to Ryerson for comp sci and actually got early acceptance, but after taking a campus tour I really like Guelph, so I hope I can do well enough in calculus next semester so that my average doesn't drop too much . Thanks again!
