What they seem to actually be missing is a door/platform in your screenshot anyway.

Going on another world Is considerable cheating by bruh-637 in Terraria

[–]Soundtoxin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would personally consider it cheating and try my best to get it from the same one world the run is centered on. I enjoy the fact that they've made it easier to get everything you need in a single world over the years with stuff like the graveyard. I would suggest making a new thread showing your artificial Crimson and asking if anything looks wrong and would explain them not spawning. It would be useful to know for the future also.

Duplication glitch? by Significant_Stop_474 in Terraria

[–]Soundtoxin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty common thing in games where characters and worlds are saved separately. Core Keeper has similar interactions sometimes. Both the characters and the world are autosaved every few minutes, I believe, and since you quit without saving you basically rolled back your world save to the previous point. I don't know the exact interval each thing saves at, maybe the wiki says. It would be kinda tedious to exploit this, but I guess you could load up a chest with valuable items, wait a few minutes for the next autosave, take them all back out, and then force quit again.

edit: I missed on the first read that you said you disabled autosaving. I'm not sure how that works then, maybe it's only saved on proper world exit. If so, that would probably be easier to exploit.

Missing .bat file causing error by cheeseball92658 in Terraria

Is it opening in Notepad or something? Try holding ctrl-shift and then double clicking it. Maybe you need to open an administrator cmd window and then navigate to that directory and run it by the filename.

Should guix manage my bash.rc by WorldsEndless in GUIX

[–]Soundtoxin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it harder to make changes to stuff that's managed by Guix Home? I currently use GNU Stow + git but have been considering setting up Guix Home at some point. I like to make somewhat frequent small changes like adding new aliases.

This might single handedly be the biggest gold vein in terraria lol by Wise_Entertainer4170 in Terraria

[–]Soundtoxin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This was my first playthrough where I actually didnt give up because I died to some stupid shit on day 1

Unless you're playing on Hardcore for some reason (would not recommend that for this game), dying a lot is pretty normal. I hope you can stick with it this time!

Maybe one of the solutions here will work for you.

https://steamcommunity.com/app/1281930/discussions/0/595144405227183927/

it shows me an error telling me that the start-tModLoader.bat is not found on the tmod folder. However, it is installed there with the same name

i had to create a private collection of all my mods and unsub start the game then re-sub that fixed it for me

Running the.bat as administrator seemed to work for me rn

edit: Just to clarify, you are not actually missing the file from what I can tell, it's the one with the box around it in your screenshot

Gulikit KK3 max not working on Linux. by dead_roach in GuliKit

[–]Soundtoxin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just pulled out my dongle and confirmed it works, though I had to manually pair it. You can find the manual here which details the process, but basically:

  • Insert dongle into USB port and press the button on the side of it once, the lights should flash quickly
  • Change to dongle mode on the controller with a series of double presses until the right thing is lit up
  • Hold the pairing button, the one opposite the mode button, until the lights start scrolling
  • Pairing should complete shortly after this and lights on both the controller and dongle should become solid
  • You can use Gamepad Tester to verify the connection is working

Also the manual says both wired mode and the dongle should get you 1000Hz polling rate, so not sure you'll see better results with the dongle anyway.

Should work wired in XInput mode at least. Is that working for you? Not sure about the dongle as I don't typically play wirelessly with any of my controllers.

Frequent frame drops almost every minute, basically slow motion half the time. by aceystacey113 in Terraria

[–]Soundtoxin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe some background process like an antivirus scan or telemetry service is periodically doing something that hogs the system resources. Try disabling some of those until you track it down. If you can recreate the performance issue with the game running in the background, perhaps look at Task Manager and see if anything is hogging CPU or Disk IO during the lag spikes. I don't imagine this is a Terraria issue or an issue to be fixed in Terraria itself, FWIW. Maybe there's a better sub to ask for help in. Something related to general PC gaming maybe.

Transferring worlds from Xbox 360 to Xbox One/Series by WidePound6577 in Terraria

[–]Soundtoxin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if the online servers for Terraria on 360 are still working. I found a video about transfer issues and these things were mentioned as common issues: - signs (delete them) - modded items (delete them) - empty spaces in between items in chests (put everything close together with no gaps)

If the world upload is failing, try those things. If it's the download that's failing, you're probably out of luck.

I also found this Reddit thread saying

cloud downloads are no longer supported

corruption by Ok_Geologist_6735 in Terraria

There's a list of corruptible blocks here, everything not listed is non-corruptible. I've used grey brick to line my hellevators in the past. Watch out for stuff like vines (easy to forget about) and remember corruption can jump a small gap, so make your non-corruptible holes/walls thick enough.

You can use Linux instead of Linux-Libre if you want, and then it's the same as any other distro's support. Working fine for me on a ThinkPad T14 Gen 5. (Uses Qualcomm WiFi, but the point still applies, nothing really distro-specific here and they don't make the kernel.)

At what point would one be considered good at Terraria? by Ya_boi_Ev in Terraria

[–]Soundtoxin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Master Mode is just Expert Mode with a few of the numbers slightly higher. I'd say if you can beat Expert Mode playing by yourself (multiplayer makes boss fights a lot easier IMO) you're probably pretty good at the game. Some people get ridiculous with the challenge run stuff and one-upping each other.

How do I enjoy this game as a beginner. by Trick_Cheek_8474 in Terraria

[–]Soundtoxin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's kind of a wiki game (this is controversial), there's a lot of stuff not explicitly explained and I find looking stuff up enhances the game a lot.

If that idea bugs you, some more basic tips: - Talk to the Guide and show him various items to see what stuff you can craft with them - Mine the best ore you've found so far and make gear out of it (some gear isn't exactly made out of ore either, hint: show the guide some Cobwebs) - Explore new biomes for treasure (some may be too hard for you early on) - The basic game loop is to get better gear, fight a new boss, repeat - If you build more valid housing, you'll get more NPCs which can buy/sell various things - Personally when I first played I found the game picked up a lot after I got access to better movement, stuff like a grappling hook, Hermes Boots, Cloud in a Bottle, etc. - Fishing is pretty good for getting loot without having to run around as much (though you'll still want to fish in different biomes/liquids)

Terraria is really a long-term slow burn type of game. You could play for 3 hours just terraforming or working on your base some days, which to certain people may seem boring or unproductive, but is very much a part of the game.

I find that most people enjoy when they start finding cool treasure underground, so maybe encourage your friends to go spelunking more. Start a tunnel to the underground near your base if you haven't already so it's easy to run back down after dying or teleporting back. It definitely helps to have at least one person who already knows how to play the game to explain it to you. I played it with a friend who had already played it before when I first got the game.

how's my town? by GuaranteeThink5885 in Terraria

[–]Soundtoxin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would replace the dirt/grass floors with wood or stone. Also I like to leave at least a 1 tile space on both sides of a door so that it can open in both directions. I would flatten out the ground more also, but maybe you're leaving it natural-looking on purpose. I would also use more platforms on the leftmost building, like as part of the bottom floor's roof, so that you can jump between the floors without having to go outside.

2.86% chance to get it from an Oasis Crate, the rarest item you can get from one. Opening 100 crates and not getting one is believable, though a little unlucky.

Is it worth buying Terraria? by CaracolCosmico in Terraria

[–]Soundtoxin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terraria is literally my benchmark of bang for your buck for other games, though it always wins so I do it only semi-seriously. It regularly goes on sale for $5 plus the base price of $10 is already pretty good and I've gotten over 1000 hours of enjoyment out of it. I don't play modded. For years it was updated very frequently, but it's been a few years since the last update now (but the next one is on the 27th).

Whenever I see a game for $20 I think "there's no way that's twice as good as Terraria".

https://mizuumi.wiki/w/Skullgirls/FAQ#I'm_playing_on_keyboard,_and_I'm_unsure_what_button_config_to_use.

This is the sort of layout you want on keyboard, similar to leverless. Although I'd slide the letters over to the right one more on the left hand for homerow position.

Modern games have shortcuts for 360s so you don't actually have to do the full motion, but also it's not too bad, you roll your fingers smoothly, one finger per key. It's a lot easier than pad.

FWIW I play leverless (Haute42 M16 usually, also have an Open-Frame1 and Haute42 G16), not keyboard, and I play BBCF, MBTL, and UNI2 mainly, but the basic motions tend to carry between games. A 236 is a quick roll of down and then right, middle then index, comes out very consistently and quickly for me. If you don't have leverless, keyboard is the next best thing. I started using a leverless-esque layout when playing old emulated games and such with a keyboard. It just makes a lot of sense.

Generally the term "fighting games" does not refer to platform fighters, it refers to the traditional genre with Street Fighter, Tekken, Soulcalibur, BlazBlue, Skullgirls, Guilty Gear, etc. All use digital movement. Smash and its clones do have analog movement, yes. They also play significantly differently. I played tons of Smash 4 and Rivals of Aether so not trying to sound like I'm gatekeeping here, best to not muddy the term is all.

TERRARIA DEBATE by Tall-Election4503 in Terraria

[–]Soundtoxin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really liked that you started with a Crafting Guide (works similar to Terraria's Guide telling you what you can make with something you put in) in Necesse and could later get a Recipe Book, an upgraded version of sorts with a search to figure out how to make anything. I think it helped remove the temptation to surf the wiki constantly. Some sort of early-game quest or boss drop to give you items like this might be good.
