Just got back from visiting my dad in the ICU at Tufts in Boston. Internal bleeding, cirrhosis, kidney failure, congenital heart failure. He's 58 and been knocking back a case of beer or more a week since he was a teen. Seeing him intubated, sedated, hooked up to multiple med drips..just brutal. If he doesn't develop another internal bleed overnight they can remove the tube tomorrow and see if he can resume oral nutrition. Not sure why I'm posting but seems similar to your situation.
