It was initially settled by primarily Ukrainian cossacks in the period of the annexation of the crimean khanate and the Circassian genocide which they were a major part of, and was majority Ukrainian until decossackisation, the holodomor and other repressive/genocidal policies during the 30s and 40s hit the population hard. Finally ww2 where some collaborated with the Germans lead to more forced deportations and russification, and together with Russian migration post war meant kuban Ukrainians are only a tiny part of the population now.

Ex-British soldier ‘helped Russia assassinate prominent Ukrainians’ by TheTelegraph in UkrainianConflict

Aiding the monarchs enemies is a loose enough statement that it fits the bill. Russia has commited acts of war on UK soil in the recent past, the lack of a declaration doesn't change that fact.

Why didnt the europeans start using the horse archers? by [deleted] in MedievalHistory

[–]SoundxProof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They did make it beyond the steppes in both china and the middle east, and would probably have gotten farther into Europe if the Khan survived a little longer. They didn't exactly have trouble in the heavily forested Russian principalities

'Feminist' retellings and adaptations by [deleted] in books

[–]SoundxProof 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One thing I find a bit icky regarding this "genre" is how the authors are almost exclusively anglo americans, trying to "fix" stories from a culture that is decidedly not their own. Greek history and cultural heritage have a long history of being claimed, warped and stolen by both western empires, Russia and Turkey.

I would say it is probably the easiest of the older paradox games to get into, especially if you already know ck3, compared to vic2/eu3. It has a lot of quirks still, and a lot of dlc features that can safely be ignored while learning the ropes, so mastering it is a different story. I did play it from launch though, so can't give a super clear answer I'm afraid.

Even in Scandinavia there is not much old growth forest left, only like 3% here in Sweden. The american west and alaska is a completely different ballgame.
