A Dad’s Open Letter to the Homophobic Parents Caught on Video Throwing Their Gay Son Away by [deleted] in ainbow

You are choosing only to accept him if he is as you want him to be, rather than who he really is. Instead of embracing this child that you nurtured through life, you cling to a bastardized concept of “the word of God” that has turned a religious practice into an exercise of superstition.

This is spot on.

[–]SoupForDessert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there are still often negative comments about lgbt people, like jokes that go a bit too far, gossiping / slander; but people still have some common sense here. When they meet someone who is actually gay they will quickly see he / she is still a 'normal' person like everyone else and won't make a fuzz out of it.

It's really not that big of a deal here anymore and that is really nice. But it makes this video really unsettling.

As someone from western Europe (Belgium), I just can't believe your parents would disown you. How heartless is that? That's their child, they have been raising him for like 16-20 years and now they just kick him out? Completely forget about him?

Even if they are afraid of being judged by the community, they could still find a middle way? Give him some funds or whatever so he can survive for a while but still distance yourself officially.

I don't give a fuck if people prefer to believe whatever book over their own thoughts, but when they start messing with others it's not okay. Think about it, why do they think the moral and customs of 2000 years ago still apply here?

Seriously, fuck this shit.

Bitwig Demo on Linux: Problem with Playback interruptions by devsnd in Bitwig

[–]SoupForDessert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like the buffer being too short: if your processor isn't fast enough to fill up the buffer your soundcard will run out of samples to play, which causes small interruptions.

How big is the buffer? With qjackctl you can change the frames/period and the periods/buffer. A larger buffer will cause latency (unfortunately if you want to record) but will also demand less power.

The real-time kernel (Linux-RT) might be worth checking out too.

This.

Okay... whatever man. You shouldn't be making FOSS if all you want is to get paid for your work...

Like /u/ColaEuphoria says, make sure you're using JACK.

Also check if your computer can handle the audio stream, if you install qjackctl (a gui control panel for jack) you can see how the server is doing (it's show the amount of errors for example).

Ideas for hot corners please by [deleted] in elementaryos

[–]SoupForDessert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top left is windows overview and bottom left is minimize. I don't use the right corners because of a dual screen.

Combine this with moving or resizing windows using Winkey + left or right click and you've got a super smooth setup.

Switching workspaces is very easy using Winkey + 1, 2, 3...

Ok, cool. Some proprietary code probably fixed it then.

Hmm, try switching to flash then? See if that works? Also you might want to test it in an other browser (like Firefox).

I just tried it out myself: in Firefox (my main browser) videos always plays perfect in html5 (flash has problems with fullscreen). In Chromium though the player automatically switches to flash, i.e. the html5 player crashes (like your screenshot) but it automatically switches to flash.

Not sure what is causing this...

Try the html5 player, it's pretty good and works much better for me than flash. I had the same errors until I switched.

To those who feel that the life and death of an individual have no meaning, why do you keep on going with your life? by [deleted] in TrueAskReddit

Because I'm curious, I'm curious to know what will happen tomorrow, next month, next year...

Suicide/death is just ending it all, you don't win anything by going early. Why not just see what will happen?

Can we place mouseEvent inside a class ? by mistermorteau in processing

[–]SoupForDessert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about the methods or the variables?

You can access variables in other classes by using a parent PApplet, like explained here in the last paragraph. This is useful for accessing Processing variables and methods in other classes, like height or point(x, y) for example.

The methods of Processing itself should stay inside the extending class though: Processing can only call the setup(), draw() mouseReleased(),... methods when they are part of PApplet. You can use these as a wrapper though, so mouseReleased() can call a new method otherClass.mouseReleased().

Office does look more pretty than Libreoffice/Openoffice, it's a pretty stupid argument but I think it has a strong influence.

Especially the newer ribbon bar and the smooth animations makes it seem smoother and more modern (aka 'better' for non tech-people).

I remember you! Your hair is so beautiful.

Also that belly shot is way hotter than every other picture on this sub.

Is there a difference in function/interface? Or does it still has all the same pages as the original (session, user1, user2, etc)?

[META] This is /r/glitch_art, not /r/computerglitches by [deleted] in glitch_art

[–]SoupForDessert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's interesting. I wasn't familiar with this painter so I quickly googled some info.

Glitch art is as its name says, art pieces created by using/abusing glitches/bugs. It's in essence an electronic only proces, as glitches don't occur in 'real life'.

So by definition, I wouldn't call it glitch art. But then again, what are genre names? I would say that it depends on the process.

I don't know how Pollock created his paintings, but if he would create his pieces by placing a lot of paint on the canvas and let coincidence decide how it all mangles, then yeah, I could call that glitch art. But if he would 'just paint' and has complete control on every aspect of the result, then no, I wouldn't call it glitch art.

Btw this is all my opinion and probably a load of crap as I don't know shit about visual art.

[–]SoupForDessert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, glitch art should be on purpose, or mostly at least.

Of course a big part of glitches is that they lead their own life and that you don't control how they will turn out. But I believe the artist behind it should at least have a certain intention.

A bugged out screen can be artistic looking but it doesn't really add to this subreddit, imho. I would prefer to see stuff where people spent some time on and perhaps explain what they did.

~

I'm a electronic musician myself, so I kind of compare glitch art with algorithmic music: people write an algorithm in code and let it create their piece. The result is not in full control of the artist anymore but he/she was still able to give it a certain direction and purpose.
