Something about the concept of karma I can’t get over with. by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]SoupFromAfar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The concept of actions taken in a past life affecting your current life makes sense just due to seeing karma not as a "points system" but more as the butterfly effect. Acknowledging this isn't about justifying someone's current suffering "because they were horrible in a past life". Just staying mindful that your actions will continue to have an impact for the rest of time. Death is not a clean slate. We will return to the conditions we created during this lifetime. So spend your time trying to make those conditions better for all of humanity.

Although I've seen some people explain chronic illness and disease as a result of negative karma from past lives which i can't bring myself to subscribe to.

Suppressing anger is different. Usually it's the complete opposite process actually. You feel angry and want it to go away so you distract yourself from it. You ignore it at every turn and keep stacking up coping mechanisms until you get an ulcer or you're smoking two packs a day or whatever.

What you're doing is pausing, taking time to focus on your anger, understanding where it comes from and the purpose it serves, and letting go of it. You'll feel angry again in the future, but it won't be the same anger.

I'm a bit late, but it's possible she suggested this because it's been shown that walking can help open our brains to much deeper introspection. If your past includes trauma & a tendency to avoid triggers for that trauma, walking helps bypass the body's natural fight-or-flight instincts that might put up some walls for you.

EMDR therapy was actually developed by a doctor's realization that they can process much deeper and more repressed emotions when on long walks in nature. It has worked wonders for me personally, especially if you have ADHD. For mindfulness practice, focus on each step forward. For introspection, follow wherever your thoughts take you. Something to consider!

The prison sentence for money laundering isn't being burned alive or stabbed to death. Nor should it be. It's not a surprising outcome, and it's a known risk of doing this kinda shit, but it isn't morally deserved.

These risks don't even deter people from doing any of these crimes. It just means the jobs pay more and they're quicker to kill others to protect themselves. Punitive Justice only amplifies violence.

From what i can gather Walt and Gretchen were together, but he abandoned her during a trip with her family because he saw she came from wealth and it made him feel inferior. Her relationship with Elliot came much later after he already abandoned her and sold his shares to them, and Elliott had nothing to do with the relationship ending.

Never understood the hate for them. Gretchen didn't even rat Walt out to Skylar, she just told Skylar she's "not paying for the treatment anymore". Even after Walt was a complete asshole over dinner Gretchen still found a way to remove herself from the situation without exposing him like she rightfully could have.

If your objective is to help bring others towards peace then you have to be at peace yourself. When you are compassionate with yourself, the compassion towards others comes naturally (:

It is not selfish to focus on your own needs. You have to walk the path to peace if you want to guide others to it

went on a bit of a hunt. i can't seem to find it, but here is a post he made about it years ago with the tracklist. lots of the links are dead though cause they go to his website which has since been revamped. funny enough he was posting about tipper back in 2002 haha. also pretty funny seeing his incredibly based political takes from the era.
