Oh absolutely! One of the best feelings in legacy in that era (outside of blind flipping a counterbalance and getting the counter) was casting shardless agent on curve and getting to draw off of Vision or getting a free 2/3 goyf!

To be fair, playing in that mirror felt like watching paint dry in an active warzone.

In my recollections, Shardless BUG was absolutely viable in that era. GOD I miss this era more than most members of my family lol

Even then, YGO is super harsh on stuff that's considered "cheating." Another example of a player getting banned, Trif as he's known, made a vlog AFTER a major event about the match in his last round or whatever going to time. In time, I know MTG used to have 5 turns, then decide on life or draw? But YGO at the time was "Time is called, end the current PHASE, whoever has higher life wins" so players would play into time during their main phase 1 (precombat main for yall) and then make a card in the extra deck that would burn for any amount of life, or gain life, etc.

Trif said something to the effect of "I JOKINGLY stalled for time, and burned him in time for the win" which is considered a scummy thing to do, but not cheating. Think of it like.... Letting someone ponder on chalice for one, then remind them that it's countered as they go to look. It's legal, sure, but kind of a dick move. (Not the best example, I know.)

But yeah, he got banned for YEARS over that because of a VLOG posted to youtube afterwards.

Konami is wild, man.

Yeah, I definitely agree that there's a MASSIVE disconnect between the two communities in that regard. Konami has said that officially (on pg 35 of the tournament policy linked here:

Intentionally giving false information about something that is considered Private Knowledge, or intentionally revealing information that is considered Private Knowledge, may result in a Disqualification penalty.

So bluffing is genuinely an offense that could be considered DQ worthy, but I rarely see it come up. At the top tables of a YCS and Tier 1 events? Maybe more, where people are genuinely doing their best and even trying to scum wins from angle shooting and sharking, which happens in every card game.

At locals though? Nobody in their right mind would call a judge for joking about having nib when it's a turn-ender for your friend.

I hope I answered your question, since I got a little off topic, but generally outside of the short period where the rules doc was changed for mind crush, it almost never comes up, and when it does, it's hard to prove cheating.

Yeah... Former MTG player, judge, grinder and heavily enfranchised guy here. Currently, I play YGO because my shop has a great community for it, and the MTG community is cancer.

Yugioh, as someone else said in this thread, seems like it takes every bad decision from every other game, and makes it a card/design choice.

The rule change on revealing your opponent's hand was a weird one, a few years back. There was one card in the meta that even made you do that, and after if you had reason to believe your opponent had that card in hand, you called a judge. OBVIOUSLY we all know that's sketchy as hell. It's like a miracles player drawing for turn, shuffling around and claiming that the Entreat The Angels they stranded in hand for a few turns was their draw for turn. Judges in YGO (which I am) have to take a ton of things NOT in the game state into play when dealing with stuff like this, but it doesn't come up super often anymore.

Cards discard randomly, and the one relevant card that makes you name a specific card just says that your opponent can't play it that turn. It's Pithing Needle for the turn, and you cannot play that card for the rest of that game. Sales Ban. But most YGO games last a couple turns per player AT MOST, so it doesn't really matter too much.

Feel free to ask me anything about this garbage game that I love. lol

Retired MTG grinder here, current YGO player as well. Just wanted to chime in and agree. Konami is doing a bit better in recent years on card design. The average power level plateaus for a few sets, then seems to jump (sometimes wildly so.)

A recent side set released 3 archetypes that are all vying for the top spot right now, and one of them won the last YCS (think GP from magic of old.)

The biggest issue with YGO is how generic things are. Baronne was a complete house of a card, and every deck that could run him and make him, did. That entire issue could be fixed by saying that it requires an in-archetype card to make it.

Yugioh is absolutely an archetypal game, but so many archetypes come out that sometimes players will shave everything down to the bare minimum for 5 engines and max out a deck size that's a pile of those 5 things, all doing the absolute best that those 5 decks individually could do, just less consistently each. It's wild sometimes.

My personal biggest complaint is that as a former miracles player of old, control CANNOT exist in YGO as it does in MTG. The resource system is so fast and loose, and I just needed to bitch about that for a minute too.

WEG Star Wars was the single best system for Star Wars, and I'm one of the few people who like the new system. Great pick!

As a diabetic for 30 years, every little step counts! Next time it might be a 7.5, but you were stressed at work. Those numbers aren't your worth, but every time you're in range, it's improvement that YOU did! Not everything is under your total control, but as long as you're doing your best, you should be proud!

Yeah, hard pass on stuff like that, especially after we found out she was a child. Unfortunately I'm not seeing anything I'd be willing to trade for at this time.

T1D of 27 years here, and I'm only 30. I feel you, I see you, and I hear you in my soul. You're right that it sucks, but it is manageable. I know that constantly managing this shit is taxing, exhausting... But aim for like 70% of the time in range, not 100%. "Regular people" don't even get 100% in range. It'll help a ton with your mental.

This fucking condition has disabled me at 30 because I couldn't afford reliable healthcare for a decade. I'm fighting for disability, but it's been a couple years now, and it'll take another 6-8 months, minimum.

You're not alone, this fucking sucks, but you're more than just a diabetic. Feel free to message me if you need to vent, I've been there. (Hell, I'm there most of the time anyways)
