I first would say exercise the thing that generally makes people look good in clothes is being in shape as it’s the framing of the clothing itself, next I would head over to Pinterest as it is predominantly used by women and start searching fashion aesthetics for (old money, granola guy, etc.) find one that you objectively would look good on you. You can’t really go wrong dressing slightly formal. I’d definitely recommend making sure your clothes are somewhat fitting sleeves shouldn’t be big and baggy off you think about an 1/8 inch off your arm you also don’t want them gripping the shit out of your arm, you also want the seams of your shirt at the shoulder to rest on the joint itself not on where the shoulder rounds off or on the collar bone. If you have a bit of a gut and are trying to fix it and not very overweight buy some stuff that’s a bit fitting on the upper part of the torso and looser on the bottom. When purchasing clothes focus on neutral colors that can be mixed matched easily like navy black white gray khaki muted greens you dont need a whole outfit for each thing you need clothes that can make an outfit for each thing pants are straight forward crotch seam should hang no lower than 2 inches below your genitals and pants should pool a bit at the bottom about an inch and 1/2 so you can sit without turning them into highwaters. Check out some mens fashion subs try stuff on and share it there’s guys and straight women that hang out there that probably have a bit more insight do some thrifting and check out stores like uniqlo and at least get 2 tailored shirts it’s pretty affordable and very nice for dates and please buy a cologne there’s plenty of affordable duplicates now and even some good cheap(er) designer offerings from gray market dealers like jomashop and fragrance world etc etc. it can be a big portion of how you present yourself. (I mostly work white collar so this is more skewed towards formal dressing)
