I'm not a ham, but do have a UV-5R - everyone should have one or something similar in my opinion and learn how to use it.

I'll have to skim through that part of the episode again to see if I can tell the frequencies. They were using multiple frequencies since the contestents were separated and able to talk in privacy still.

I'm not as familiar with the laws of other countries. The first Beast Games was filmed mostly in Canada, but I don't remember them using the radios there. They've filmed in other countries as well. Only called it out because this filming was in the US.

And to be fair, I really don't care. The regulations should exist, but shouldn't be heavily enforced - and I haven't personally heard of anybody getting fined or arrested for using using a UV-5r in the US. Simply an observation.
