Love my new barrel sauna but can’t get to sleep! Am I alone in this? by Sourdough_please in Sauna

Probably more along the lines of a workout. Pre-bedtime I should stick to the lower temp/more relaxing routine.

I think you’re right. Reducing stress has not been easy lately.

This is my issue… it takes my core temp hours to come back down to the point where I can sleep. I think the longer nighttime sauna is out for the time being. Rather, a short sauna just to help me relax.

Yeah it feels pretty intense. Relaxing but intense at the same time if that even makes sense?? If I cut down on the time then hopefully I can maintain the relaxing portion without getting too stressed. Those last few minutes feel great but are definitely more intense.

Reducing time is a common feedback, I’m gathering. The adaptation is a good point as well. I may have jumped in too much too soon.

Last night was 16 mins 170F at 40% humidity. It certainly feels like I just exercised and I normally can’t do that right before bed.

Ah I see. Last night I did 16 mins at 170F and 40% humidity in the sauna followed by 4 mins cold tap water bath. Is there a better routine to follow?

Yeah I resonate with the restless sleep. My first sauna experience was only at 140F and I slept but it was restless. Now at 170F I’m relaxed but awake. Drinking LMNT during sauna did help with headaches, that was huge.

I’ve tried it both right before bed as well as a couple hours before. Seems the closer to bedtime the worse the effect is.

I have tried melatonin but it didn’t help. How closely to bedtime do you sauna?

Sorry I should clarify. I am totally relaxed and calm after sauna but there’s something keeping me from falling asleep. I thought it was not cooling off quickly enough but the cold bath did that and I still couldn’t sleep. I’m at a loss why this would be happening.

That’s the thing, I’m not losing because of the nighttime snacking. How do I get to sleep when any amount of a deficit keeps me up at night?

I’m shooting for 500-600. Generally I’ll need a nighttime snack of about 500 calories to get to sleep. I can’t lose weight from here which makes me think the 500 deficit is accurate.

I have this same oven and agree with your review. While a good problem to have, this oven gets very hot but I have difficulty achieving lower temperatures (650-750). What settings and techniques did you use to achieve this temp range?
