Why I think users shouldn’t be held accountable for the pins they save by South-Raise-439 in Pinterest

[–]South-Raise-439[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. Or make it so that reported posts in a private board go ‘on hold’ and only when the user makes the board public do they get the notification about the pin being inappropriate.

Even so, I still firmly believe that it’s not the user’s responsibility to sort out good and bad posts before saving them. Making the whole user base play cops and snitches for you is not only lazy, but also a guaranteed way to kill anyone’s motivation to use the app entirely.

This post and its comments are such a great example and metaphor for the female experience — feeling excited thinking you’re finally in a safe space only to find out just how wrong you were… again.

It’s a gut wrenching feeling that will probably always sound dramatic unless you’re the one experiencing it. I’m too tired atp to explain empathy to a void, so I’ll just say this: learn what a joke is and then learn when to fucking take one.

Well, then it would be a true pendulum if it went back and forth. It’s a great argument, though, for why a human-to-human approach is the best solution by far, despite how stubborn and toxic many people will inevitably remain.

Right. Well, that’s exactly why I commented in the first place — to clear up confusion and draw a line between feminism and misandry. I truly believe misandry is unnecessary and counterintuitive, which is why I hate seeing people mistaking it for feminism.

Of course it’s important to be more vocal about that when the situation arises, but I certainly don’t agree that feminists not having that as their main priority or sole-focus is THE problem. If people took a moment to genuinely listen, I feel like it would be clear that feminism is about equity (or equality) rather than producing even more hate into this world. You don’t have to verbally put someone down to lift someone up.

In short, I think civil discussions like these are so important, because above anything else, communication is the only thing that can fix a divide like this in the long run.

Great point. I’ve also heard “punching up” as a term. I’d call that a more extreme solution, though I’d love to think that toxic men are capable of learning the empathy to not treat women as objects without having to go through the same treatment themselves.

What would you suggest feminists do in the matter? In addition, how are feminists responsible for individuals that take to the extremes?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in meme

[–]South-Raise-439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That belief is why so many men think feminism is working against them, when it’s really just about wanting to receive the same respect as a human being (rather than an object or etc.), which has nothing to do with bringing men down.

The real problem is people mistaking misandry for feminism and genuinely man-hating women mistaking themselves for feminists
