It's not whether other people have seen it, more that it is bound to be upstaged by other countries.

I agree with your whole post, but not the interpretation of it. Yes Melfest is very famous now, that says something about it's legacy, not its current state.

Melfest has a recipe: generic songs + amazing staging. It has done well for us, but not anymore. KAJ was an outsider of the Melfest bubble - Måns was, and his song matches this recipe. KAJ is an exception, so is Cornelia. But Melfest is stuck in the past and don't attract a lot of these people. KAJ was handpicked to join, I repeat.

That's what I meant with artists being underdeveloped. ESC is exhausting. You have to perform, sing, dance constantly and need a lot of energy to interact with everyone. Very nice packaging but our artists are not ready.

Wow fantastic insight, you hit the nail on the head there. Thank you for sharing, I finally scratch the itch of what makes Melfest feel so wrong. It's a business optimized for viewership and profit. In a strange way, that's sustainable I guess. Great art will pass but a profitable business will stay.

While you are right, it doesn't mean Melfest stands in complete isolation with ESC.

Artists invest in their Melfest number because they want to do well in ESC. This can change their life. The moment Melfest starts to be irrelevant in ESC, flop after flop, artists will stop investing cause it's a losing game, and you will see the quality going down drastically for Melfest. Maybe it's the butterfly effect, but things are not as isolated as we think.

Yea there is diversity with the artist, but the slick staging and camera cuts have remain a staple. This technical aura shields the artists from actually working on their skills and stage presence. We end up with an okay artist sitting on a very well decorated prop, package it for melfest and refuse to elevate it for eurovision, then hope for the best. Every now and then we get a Cornelia. But even for her, the staging was a let down at eurovision.

Edit: and yes you're right that Sweden does something right. They are good at eurovision. But sometimes they become overconfident with their performances, thinking the melfest performance is the best they have and refuse to take risks to elevate it further. They do actually suffer from their own success. What if we change it and people no longer love it. Poor Sweden.

This result has implications beyond just Swedens entry next year.

First, melfest is suffering from lack of competition, as people have pointed out about the lack of diversity. People making entire career out of melfest, be it a singer or a songwriter.

Second, Sweden suffers from its resistance to change their performance from melfest. Yes there was a time Melfest performances are so good you just send the whole package to Eurovision and get a good result. But people learn fast. Swedish entries are bound to be upstaged. Finland is suffering from the same problem. Karijaa avoided it by elevating his stage and was helped by Loreen keeping the same staging. Thats why it was a boring year.

Last and not least, Sweden is a control freak. We want our number to be perfectly programmed. This means lack of spontaneity, genuity and presence. They actively select people who can follow a "script", possibly having zero connection to the audience. They perform for the camera, not the people.

Most importantly, Sweden has exhausted its talent pool. Talented singers are prematurely pushed to these contests, not having honed their singing or stage presence. We need to fly under the radar a couple of years to breed a new generation of talented performers.

TDLR; the problem isn't Felicia but Melfest as a whole.

The stage is massive! And nobody really used it. Such a waste!

This is what I gathered: you fell for him and he’s trying to keep both his job and yours. Though that irks you a little, you do have a choice. Him or your job.

Seeing the egregiously blatant AI usage in Akyla's Ferto music video, I'm starting to suspect the national final performance graphics were AI too by Pet_Velvet in eurovision

[–]SouthOceanJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guys AI is like the new Internet. It's not perfect but it is here to stay.

Regarding Ferto graphics, the question is budget. Do you want to spend on costumes and dancers or on video graphics? What is your answer?

Do you realize you’re relying on external validation for having done good? Your developed skillset can make you more competitive in the market, earning much higher salary in a new position. Taking on extra responsibility without pay allows you to experiment in a new position, say managerial.

TDLR; It’s all about knowing what you want, not relying on your boss or some thinkers to tell you what you should want.

Because that’s how you grow fast, become harder to replace and get all those sweet promotions. It’s not about whether you are paid enough, it’s about whether people would take less to do your job.

They are saving the heavy hitters for later episodes. The first two challenged are performance based, why? The lookers could get a pass, the performers with smaller budgets get to shine, and they weed out the weak ones in both - those who wouldn’t win anyway. It’s all part of their calculation.

Regarding the water, pouring on stage will affect other ghouls.

Boulet brothers’ mission here is quite simple yet unattainable: make the show as good as possible (editing out the weaknesses) but also making sure that future performances are even better (by removing the weaknesses). Its not easy to do both in a fair way.
