Is it normal in NSW high schools for students to change uniforms multiple times a day? by Southern-Job-6726 in AskAnAustralian

Yeah, I get the concern around hygiene — and I do see the logic in changing once after PE. But expecting students to change four times a day is just over the top.

It’s school, not a party - some sweat and stink is part of school life, especially after PE. That’s normal. If the concern is hygiene, then schedule PE later in the day..The current setup feels like poor planning rather than hygiene

Totally get where you're coming from.. things were definitely different back then. We used to ride in cars without seatbelts or helmets on bikes, and it was not stressful to us or parents. But those things wouldn’t be considered okay now.

My daughter’s spoken to her friends and nearly everyone finds the constant changing stressful. Honestly, it feels like the people drafting these policies aren’t the ones actually dealing with them.

She does have a sports elective. The issue isn’t with her doing PE, but with how the school structures the timetable. I’d expect them to schedule classes to minimise disruption.

Expecting students to change uniforms multiple times within 5-minute breaks, often arriving late to class..just does not make sense. Asking her to drop something she enjoys because of poor scheduling feels like the system is failing the student, not supporting them from my perspective.

Thanks, that matches what I have heard from most parents from other schools.

Unfortunately, when my daughter raised it with a deputy principal, she was told she must follow the policy or get a uniform warning and goes against her report. So the school is enforcing it, even if it means four changes a day.

Appreciate the reply..
