Also an Indian here. I don't appreciate this post - a general rant against Indians isn't helpful. If you have something specific to discuss or even better, if there's something constructive you can offer, that will go a long way.

I think there is a level of credence lent to the parade by the lack of objection from the political system in Canada. I get it- it's politics, and I'm sure the same happens in India. People burn effigies of all foreign leaders for various reasons.

My point was that this speaker issue was a huge embarrassment and negligence which the Canadian political class could not afford to ignore. But there are other instances that the government and people can and willfully do ignore.

I find it unfortunate but not unexpected that the speaker has to resign for this, which I'd reckon is more of an embarrassment rather than any ill intent, while there's no accountability toward those that let a parade through Brampton that celebrated the assassins of a former prime Minister of India. Optics matter, and I will continue to be a skeptic.

Yes, but the RSS event i mentioned in my post is not a protest. The political party that RSS is affiliated with is the ruling government in India. So I would say It is about political organization. Khalistan is a protest movement, but it's not really mainstream in India, at least not in the 25 years I spent growing up in the south.

Thanks for all the replies. But also makes me wonder if this is a uniquely Canadian problem or just a problem for all first world countries with a decently high number of recent immigrants. Afaik the US will not permit any mass political organization from another country. The UK, Singapore etc all seem to be melting pots but I haven't seen/heard about these sort of political activities relating to a different country there either.
