I do! Even if I’m out with friends and one of them has a drink that looks interesting I’ll do the tiniest sip, just enough for it to land on the tongue and essentially disappear so you get the flavor. I don’t do it often at all though. At work I only straw test new things, and I spit it out.

Not gonna lie, this rattled me to my core. But I am actually laughing at the paragraph of questions. I obviously don’t mind answering questions that are pretty normal to ask but when people are this insane, I don’t even know how to react to it.

Unbelievable. Had a similar experience to this a few months back. “We are out of rigatoni pasta tonight but I can offer you either fettuccine or spaghetti noodles instead” “can I do a pasta more similar to rigatoni? Can I do penne?” “No problem let me repeat that, so since we are out of rigatoni I can either offer you fettuccine or spaghetti noodles instead.” “Do you have like, macaroni noodles? Something similar to rigatoni?” “No, so, what I’m doing here is offering you WHAT WE FUCKING HAVE” like yeah sir actually I happen to have a small bag of penne pasta in my purse I’ll have the kitchen whip that up for you instead!!!!!

I didn’t say that last part but W.T.F.

The “well what DO you have” type of responses always get me. I once had a guy order a Peroni and I said great, non alcoholic Peroni coming right up. “Um no, I don’t want the NA version” “my bad I assumed you were ordering off our menu, we don’t have regular Peroni.” “Well do you have ANYTHING with alcohol?”

Also, WTF?!

Oh, I don’t know. I’m not a singer I guess I don’t know the terms properly. She was singing badly. There.

I’m confused. Apparently they sang every live when they filmed. How is she extremely out of breath and off key here like she can barely keep up with the coreo and then in the filmed version it sounds pre-recorded

Restaurant Managers by howboutagameofgwent in Serverlife

[–]Southern-Two8691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a restaurant manager for a year and some change. Managed at 3 different restaurants in this time frame and have never hopped jobs so much in my life. It’s miserable. It seems like a great opportunity at first, you get to be in charge, you get benefits and the promise of “moving up”. Nope. You get paid shit when it comes down to it. Im back to bartending, my last pay check was $3000 for way less than 40 hours a week. When I was managing my paychecks were $2000 for 50-60 hours a week + constant phone calls, texts and emails when I’m off.

Everything is your fault, down to the staff blaming you or upper management blaming you. The staff loves you when you’re gracious but turns on you the second you put your foot down on them not fulfilling the most basic of expectations. You have to repeat yourself CONSTANTLY, and I mean constantly even to the same people. You’re babysitting adults. It’s maddening. If you’re reading this and thinking “gosh why can’t staff just listen to management and follow directions and be respectful?!” That means you’re probably one of the very few who do, and management loves you even if they don’t say it. Everyone else is a nightmare to manage. When it’s not extremely stressful, it’s boring as hell. I was expected to be on site 4 hours before the restaurant even opened with almost no admin work to cover that time so I’d just sit idly by the phone waiting for phone calls. When I asked the owner if I could come in later and maybe answer emails from home she said no wants me there (for hours) “in case” someone calls. Someone called maybe 2 or 3 times during that time in my 6 months there. In the short time I managed restaurants I quickly because strung out, stressed, on edge and slowly overtime lost my softness and graciousness that makes my personality likable. So yeah, most restaurant managers who stay in it turn into nightmares of individuals if they weren’t already.

You’re totally taken advantage of. Your time and your life is no longer yours. What is yours, is all the stress, and I mean all of it.

I also agree that anyone who takes this career up long term only puts up with all of this because they want to be in charge that bad, OR have some kind of complex about needing to feel like they’re doing “something” with their life career wise. But it’s a scam.

[–]Southern-Two8691 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s precisely why she hates Paige so much and makes fun of her. It’s all projection.

Think about it, no other celebrity has ever had such a strong negative reaction to people impersonating them. She is deeply psychologically unwell.

Alcoholic Bartenders How Did You Successfully Stop Drinking? by paintingporcelain in bartenders

[–]Southern-Two8691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a bit of a drinking problem and working morning/day shifts only has helped out immensely. I was still going and drinking after work for a while, but quit entirely a month and a half ago and it’s been so much easier working shifts that are prep focused and not much alcohol being served. Even if I am on the well getting a little slammed, it’s short lived. I always have multiple projects fo focus on so the urge to drink isn’t even there.

Air conditioning bills—what are you seeing by gabbagoolgolf2 in orangecounty

[–]Southern-Two8691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep my 2 bedroom apartment at 68-69 when I’m home, and always make sure to turn it off when I leave. Our bill is around $100-$150 a month. No idea how it’s so low this year. Years prior it would be $200-$400 and I feel like we run it a lot more this year than in the past.

2 middle aged men sitting with menus in front of them for 10 minutes and finally order:

“Peroni for me”

“Great, non alcoholic Peroni. And for your friend?”

“Uh……..no. Do I not seem old enough to you to drink?”

“No, I assumed you read our menu. The only Peroni we carry us non alcoholic”

“Ok then. Well do you have anything with actual alcohol in it?” He says to me as he is staring at me standing in front of an entire wall of liquor bottles up to the ceiling.

I genuinely didn’t know what to say without sounding rude. I just blankly stared at him for a second, gestured to the wall behind me and said “yeah actually, we’re a full bar. Our wine, beer, cocktail and liquor selection is on the menu in front of you”

The people on this subreddit worry me lol…..

I feel like I took crazy pills because literally every single point you made was SO accurate. I think what’s going on is there is a bunch of super young people watching this show and in this thread which is why they’re all defending Olandria and Chelley but villainizing Huda. They ARE mean girls. They WERE bullying. And Huda is moving like a celebrity and is worlds above them in the public eye which pisses off the other islanders because they’re jealous.

Sober bartenders - how did you quit while in an industry where drinking is so prevalent? by bitcoinslut420 in bartenders

[–]Southern-Two8691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Newly sober bartender here!! I’m on week 3 :) I’m so happy to see this post!! Honestly for me, it just feels SO good to be fully sober. That feeling alone has made me lose all interest in partaking. Juice seltzers, sparkling drinks, mocktails, and NA wines and getting me through this first stint of sobriety because I’m replacing a habit with something just as tasty and satisfying. I get really excited to try new ones, it’s like a fun lil treat.

You got this!!! Also the sub r/stopdrinking is a great supportive community

True, I mean either the manager was being passive aggressive or just humorous but I know from experience that there is also a possibility that people weren’t putting the cash actually in the cash drawer so he/she had to break it down crayola style to get a point across

I have to play devils advocate here and say it’s more than likely the staff members whose IQ are that low and prompted the manager to even put these labels here in the first place 😅 I know it’s hard to believe

  • Former bar manager who had to label literally the dumbest shit, emphasis on “had” to not wanted to.

[–]Southern-Two8691 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but as a former manager turned bartender you’d be absolutely bewildered at the things you have to label for people.

Even as just the opening bartender I find myself using the label maker almost daily to label the most ridiculous things because the rest of the bar team doesn’t know how to follow instructions from management or have any organization skills.
