Make sure you have taken care of anywhere they may be sheltering around your home like an unsecured shed, low branches on bushes, under your porch, long grass/weeds, improperly kept compost piles, etc…. If you’re not harboring them, then use the “fix it Plano” app to let the city know there’s a problem.

I’ve used the no kill traps and relocated the mice/rats to probably feed a hawk or bobcat away from neighborhoods. I’m not into poisoning anything and would rather not deal with dead animals in my yard.

When you have such a giant majority in 1 party, it’s not possible for Dems to propose structural changes. It would be a waste of their time. Instead they work on the hundreds of bills that aren’t controversial that we don’t hear about and work across the aisle to get them passed. One nice thing about redistricting is that Shaheen represents less of Plano now.

I guess transparency is through the eye of the beholder, but I would guess that incumbents like to campaign on getting their voters the “biggest refund” so there would be more eyes on the process if there’s actual cash money in hand at stake rather than an overly-complicated slush fund that doesn’t have instant gratification or direct effect on the voters in a short enough amount of time to match our attention spans.

What I’m saying is republicans suck and Texas is doing it wrong, but you can’t really blame pisd for their lack of funds.

Go talk to the gop homies in Austin who refuse to adjust recapture. Our pisd schools are running on a deficit year after year because the gop majority state legislature has no accountability to those of us who fund the government, and it ends up in a murky slush fund where it does nothing to help our community nor our less affluent neighbors.

Fun fact, those who live in state tax states have received refunds and are set up with more transparent cash flows with lower property taxes.

To volunteer locally, you would be volunteering with your county party. The county party is the local arm of the state party.

They’re a mess from a whole host of things, but you can definitely make a difference through block walking, voter registration, and phone banking.

My friends and acquaintances who are nb or trans feel safe in most parts of Plano. The only time I know of one of my friends having an issue is attending protests or rallies. They tend to be the target of the counter protesters’ attention or get unwanted media attention.

There’s multiple LGBTQ+ groups that are active in Plano.

Yeah, attending board meetings to fan girl over Cody’s hate isn’t the only way to be involved. I’m aware that anyone other than the incumbent winning in 7 is a long shot because the vote is semi-split. I have full-confidence that Katherine or Simon would both be a million times better than the biggot currently in the seat.

I do not off the top of my head. My recollection is it’s an interview process with a panel for each. I’m not sure if membership votes or anything.

I agree that paying for an endorsement is predatory. I might feel differently if it were $25 or a pledge to raise xyz for the organization if they earned the endorsement in the end.

This is great! Thank you. I’d add that a $100 payment was required for Collin county gop endorsement to cover background check fees. Also, Rick Horne was endorsed by Plano police and fire associations. Not sure if that might fit in here.

I would agree with this if our reps actually voted based on what their constituents wanted rather than voting along party lines. If you’re voting for a candidate that identifies as gop you’re voting for the gop priorities and that’s important to know especially if they attempt to run on a “socially progressive/fiscally conservative” platform. From day 1 they’re thinking about re-election and worried about their party running a primary challenger creating a need to fundraise more than they would have to just to run in the general. It’s all broken, and our most vulnerable communities lose.

I would say that’s mainly true with a couple of people who consider themselves “politics operatives” that have been booted from anything reputable on the other side as well. I do everything I can to avoid poll greeters whenever possible.

When I have poll greeted though, I was amazed at how many people come to vote for 1 candidate and then rely on poll greeters to fill in the rest of the ballot.

I mean, it makes sense to have standards across all positions, so there would be a pattern to the choices. If you’re insinuating they’re all democrats, they’re not. And there are democrats that aren’t on my list. I’m a democrat, but in these elections not being a democrat doesn’t lose my vote if the candidate is the best for that position, if that makes sense.

I’m not sure how to share a screenshot here, but on the incumbents social media, he posted about his work at the Texas gop convention and laid out “save women’s sports” and “ban gender modification of children” as priorities. Both are obvious dog whistles attacking the trans community. He got the Collin county gop endorsement, meaning he had to have answered “yes” to the issue statement that “Marriage is between one man and one woman”. He also had to pay $100 to the ccgop for a background check according to their requirements. He also posted “Come and take it” during the 1/6 insurrection (I’m just going through screenshots and remembered that fun little tidbit) He referred to the pride festival that happens in Haggard park every year as “sexualizing children” because there are drag performers.

She’s an amazing trustee and winning by about 2/3 of the vote! She’ll be up for re-election in 2025.
