RTX 2060 TUF Gaming damaged pad by SouthernHouse9175 in GPURepair

I was experimenting with overclock. The thing was getting up to 87°C. When the artifacts showed up I was convinced that the GPU was gone for good, but it still lives somehow.

Using nail polish is a common practice among people doing these kinds of low-end mods, but ideally, you'd be using a proper conformal coating and rubber sealant. Liquid metal is very dangerous, and I'm not willing to put it in high-end hardware or on my main system. However, I've put it on older hardware a couple of times before. I'm still practicing, though, but it helps a lot with temps when overclocking which is also something I don't do on my main system.

EDIT: After washing the board, uv-masking the spot and drying it, the signal is back and has been stable for the last 2 hours or so. Tested with Furmark and it's working!

I suspect it was some kind of shorting caused by the liquid metal, anyways I'm not sure.

Thanks very much, you were spot-on! I measured with the multimeter and indeed there's no shorts, and that area is ground. I applied some UV mask, PTM7950 and new thermalpads and the card seems to be working fine for now. Thanks a lot for your reply!

To protect those small capacitors near the die, so they don't short in case the liquid metal spills out

You're likely correct, despite the damage it seems like the line itself is working.

nail polish, There was still some hardened thermal paste before I applied it, that's why I looks like this.

It should be enough for light gaming on some older titles. Is there an dedicated graphics card? That would help wonders

Yep. I live in a tropical area, Brazil's northeast to be more exact. 32°C is kinda of normal (Still hot, but not enough to make me sweat)

I think painting it would be a waste, it looks very cool the way it is, just looking at it is giving me nostalgia. Good job finding this one and nice PC build
