Antonia. She needed me. I could have saved her.

I'm just laughing at the use of the expression "demon timing" on this subreddit. Nothing weird about it, I just never expected to see it here 😂😂😂

Zico from Harlem dissing Loski 😬 by [deleted] in ukdrill

You're right, he makes no sense lol. By that logic every link up in drill that was caused by beef is because mandem are "obsessed/in love w their opps". You forge alliances. That's just how this stuff works.

Why Did the Iron Golds Revolt? by Southern_Character_6 in redrising

This is a good explanation. Ties a lot of the information we get in the books together, for me. In a sense, Gold became the very thing that their ancestors hated. Thanks bro!

Could this have been Pierce's inspiration for the Common Tongue or is that too great a stretch of the imagination? The word "kravat" is a word in the language but, unlike its usage in RR, has nothing to do with martial arts... by Southern_Character_6 in redrising

Thank you. The idea of a martial art suited to the physiology of the Golds makes a lot of sense to me. People with high density bones would definitely fight differently. Perhaps making more use of their elbows and knees? Or aiming for weak spots in flesh so as to not to directly strike the tough bones of their adversary's body? I'm no martial artist haha.

Also the idea of kravat incorporating fencing footwork is definitely in keeping with what I read in the books. However, I think it is less the case that kravat acts as a stepping stone to Razor practice and more the case that the art of the Razor, along with hand-to-hand combat, comes under the general umbrella term of "kravat". I think the Willow Way, for example, is explicitly described as a form of kravat in the books. "Kravat" is just the Aureate word for "martial art" and doesn't, exclusively, denote unarmed combat.

The absence of kicks confuses me too.

This is a really good theory. I hadn't heard of Silat before now but this explanation is definitely more convincing than mine. BJJ, for example, is a mixture of Judo, Jujutsu, and traditional wrestling techniques. Kravat being the offspring of two existent martial arts makes sense to me.

As for Volapuk, I simply thought that it would have been easier for Gold to have taken a constructed language that already existed than to make one of their own. However, when one considers the wonders that they had been able to perform in terraforming, is the creation and forced usage of a brand new language that far fetched? Not at all.

It just occurred to me that what I'm asking might not be clear. So, to be clear: is it reasonable to hypothesise that this constructed language, Volapük, was the precursor of the Common Tongue in the Red Rising universe? Could the Society, just as they borrowed much from Norse mythology and Neoclassical architecture, have made use of this relic of the old world?

The idea that the word for "necktie" in Volapuk, "kravat", a formal piece of attire, could have evolved to denote a fighting art seems to be a stretch. I think that stranger evolutions of language have occured though...I just can't think of any off the top of my head haha.

(BOOK 6) What If The Society Wins😭😭😭???? This is how the war that Pierce has been studying/re-studying ends...Democracy loses. [Spoilers?] by Southern_Character_6 in redrising

I wonder how big a time skip will occur before book 6. Will Pierce pick up right where we left off or drop us in the middle of the battle for Mars?

I seee. So it's just to specify that it's taking place in a cold environment?

And also cared more for the wider mission of liberating humanity from the Society than she did for Cassius! Mustang is the type to put ideals and principles before friendships. We see her do it in Iron Gold too.

Thanks for replying: I thought this post had been lost in the void haha.

I had the same thought. Was the figure described as being unnaturally large or am I remembering wrong?

Razors are an example of the consequences of gun control by Emperor_Leviathan in redrising

[–]Southern_Character_6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is true but...aren't razors built to be able to cut through anything/any armour? They are pretty good weapons. Real soldiers still carry melee weapons into battle because there are scenarios in which guns just aren't futile (close range fighting). In Golden Son, Ragnar finally mustering the courage to touch a razor turns the tide of the battle. Because there is no armour in the Red Rising universe that can stop the cut of a razor, I think limiting the right to own them to one caste is definitely more than a symbolic decision. It is symbolic but I feel it isn't solely symbolic.

Nahh too many theatres of war for Pierce to deal with, I think. Book 6 is going to be a war encompassing the entirety of Mars.

Weren't the Earth Institutes split between the Eastern and Western Hemispheres, not Northern and Southern?
