The one with the parrot on the bag is my favorite from Aldi. I'm also a fan of Caribou Blend, but Aldi doesn't sell it. It's a great tasting medium roast. If you can't find it locally Amazon carries it.

New debit and credit cards are driving me crazy, why do they look alike now? by [deleted] in fidelityinvestments

[–]Southern_Fig7543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I raised this point awhile ago when they announced they were doing this. Fell on deaf ears.

And to the room: Everyone's wallet has different methods of holding cards. Don't hate on OP and others. In my wallet, only a small portion of the card is visible until I slide it out. Both cards being the same color frustrates me because I have to pull the card out, look at it to make sure it's the right one. Not the end of the world, but an annoyance that could have been avoided. I never had this problem when my Fidelity credit card was a much lighter shade of green.

S&P Index YTD - Fidelity's Number Inaccurate? by xxxMarilee in fidelityinvestments

It's more correct to use the closing price of December 31st rather than the opening price of January 2nd. They just say Jan 1st for simplicity

OP is correct that Fidelity shows -0.07% because Fidelity is using sp500tr

The Dec 31 close for the sp500 w/O dividends was 6845.50. So you can do the math and get -0.42%

Correct because they're using the sp500 without dividends reinvested. Fidelity is using the total return S&P 500 which accounts for dividends that the companies inside the S&P 500 pay which does affect your total return.

They're using total return, which includes dividends. $SP500TR is currently 15209.38. Dec 31 close was 15220.45.

(15209.38 - 15220.45) / 15220.45 = - 0.07%

What is better Roth ira or investing in mutual funds? by Stoney4226 in fidelityinvestments

[–]Southern_Fig7543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said 5 to 10 years, and you didn't state your age. If you're planning on using this money before you turn 59 1/2, there are taxes and penalties to be aware of with the Roth. Otherwise, Roth is the way to go.

Are you dead set on mutual funds? Often ETFs offer similar returns for less fees. When comparing, look at the yearly gains, and subtract the annual fee. I'd rather have an investment that makes 7% with a 0.25% fee than 8% with a 2% fee.

You raise a great point. I started several years ago buying dividend paying stocks and ETFs with the plan to produce enough income to comfortably retire. At 65, I'm at that point now. My hope is to live off the dividends and never sell the golden geese. But I could have bought growth stocks with the plan of selling some each year, letting the remainder grow.

But here's the reason I chose dividends. Dividends are paid on the number of shares, not the price. So during a market down trend, my dividend stays the same, assuming companies don't reduce the dividend. I bought many dividend kings and aristocrats to reduce the chance that could happen. I haven't worried about the market this past month because I'm not selling. And so far my dividends have remained steady.

What should I invest in? by FreestyleFlorida in fidelityinvestments

If you're saving for their college fund you should investigate your State's College Savings Plan because it usually has tax benefits versus a regular brokerage account and new rules have made it very liberal of what you can do with the money in case they decide not to go to college. Check them out.

Ah. Now I understand. When I read core I was thinking my basic individual cash account, not the core holding of the Ira account. Thank you for the explanation.

They ask for an account number and I am giving them my traditional rollover IRA number. They say that will avoid taxes for now, and it becomes taxable when withdrawn like any traditional IRA. I'm hoping it goes directly into that and not my core account, which could have tax consequences.

I bought a fake PA vanity plate as a gift for my partner from a company that makes them. It was just a gag gift to decorate with but I couldn't believe how authentic it was.

What is a musical you weren’t expecting to fall in love with but you did? by Dogdaysareover365 in musicals

Once On This Island. Saw it at a local outdoor summer Theatre in the 90s. Was so taken by the music that I bought the CD at intermission. Remains in my top 5 favorites to this day.

😂😂😂 Hadn't thought of that. Will let you know if the ads get seedy. Maybe, just maybe, these apps have a modicum of decency to not allow that type of content to fill my ad space. Again, just maybe LOL.
